Really cool video explaining the process behind making Omega's flush finished gold and ceramic bezels for the Planet Ocean line: http://www.omegawatches.com/spirit/watchmaking/ceragold-technology
Magic Gold where they alloyed gold with ceramic: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/hublot-to-offer-scratch-resistant-magic-gold-watches/
Respectable Member dsio I think the China market in particular and the Asian market in general, will find this to be attractive. Thank-you.
I think the cool thing about this though is that unlike with the Rolex GMT2C and Submariner where the ceramic bezel is etched rather deep, then the cavity is has a layer of PVD platinum or gold applied, in the Ceragold and LiquidMetal bezels the metal actually completely fills the bezel and creates a perfect flush finish. There are already reports of the thin PVD layer in the Rolex style ceramic bezels being scratched, and having those exposed edges in the engravings invite muck to collect and chips on the edges, while this method with actual solid metal filling it makes it more one solid piece rather than an afterthought. I REALLY love how the light reflects off these bezels too:
Black and pink/red gold is a great combination for a dress watch - not a tool watch. Have you ever seen a wrench or saw made from 18ct gold? No! Tools are made of steel.
Thing is its not a tool watch per se, its a sports watch like the Speedmaster or Daytona or Submariner for casual wear, that's where it really makes an impact, and here in Queensland, you can't wear suits most of the year, a good pair of slacks, a good linen shirt rolled up to your elbows, open top couple of buttons and a watch to balance it out.
But it's a DIVE watch. You know - Planet OCEAN? It's perfectly fine to wear with the attire you describe in stainless. But an 18ct case for a dive watch is as whacked-out as a tank who's armor is bubble wrap.
Oh sure , next you'll be telling us your against 18K Yachtmasters with gold bracelets. Man, you're never gonna fit in on the Gold Coast at the annual OF gtg with that Seiko. Sad, very sad.
Sir dsio, this is the RG ver but i just want to try. Love the comb gold & black the only problem is i cannot afford it hahahhaha
