I have a question..I've come across a 2500 at a good price and would like a few questions answered.. Did all Centenaries have 18k hallmarks on the outside of the caseback or were they stamped inside the caseback? Also, what are key points to look out for with the model, eg what should the movement say on them etc..!? What should be on the inside of the case? Thanks in advance!
I posted this a while back. http://omegaforums.net/threads/a-pair-for-the-ages-the-omega-centenary-2499-and-2500.2106/ Kyle has a later version of the 2499 with the cal 343. Hallmarks will be found typically on the side of the case as well as the back of one of the lugs.
If it's the one up on ebay, pass on it. Redialed and if I recall correctly the movement was in rough condition. Case was overpolished as well as the dial. A member here purchased it and it was later returned. Also be sure to check out the link above.
Hey guys, apparently it doesn't have visible hallmarks...he said they might be inside...sound fishy? It looks like Dennis's version...oh, Kyle I saw the one you mean, no, not that one...
The price is REALLY good..I'm hoping it all checks out...should I open her up there and then? Anything I should look out for in particular?
I agree with Mike that it looks like a 2500. Case looks sharp and dial looks original too. Good luck!
Here are some high quality pictures of a Ref. 2500 that belonged to Frederick IX, King of Norway. http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.aspx?ref=IE8Activity&from=&to=en&a=http://vintageure.dk/desktopdefault.aspx?tabindex=118&tabid=311 That's exactly what you should be looking for on the inside. gatorcpa
Yeah, they're pretty photogenic actually. This shot was taken by the light of a 40 watt desk lamp alone!
