    Hi All,

I have been stalking this forum a while now. I really appreciate all the help that is dispensed on this site. You have deepened my appreciation for vintage watches and I am in the throes of convincing my wife of this as well :) I feel like you guys are so thorough that if I find a watch on ebay (US) that doesn't end up in the recommended thread that it must be a redial or franken (and I am therefore extremely hesitant to bid on it). That being said, I imagine many have already seen this watch. It looks pretty close to the watches for the KO 2846 on Naligazone: (http://naligazone.com/index.php/data-watch/omega/caliber-5/cal-501/ko-2846) so I am not sure what I am missing. This watch does have a new crown - that I'm pretty sure of. Can anyone tell me anything that I should be aware of before bidding on the watch?

EDIT: The watch is currently at $255...

    Again thank you all so much for all your help!!! s-l1600 (1).jpg s-l1600 (2).jpg s-l1600 (3).jpg s-l1600 (4).jpg s-l1600 (5).jpg s-l1600 (6).jpg s-l1600.jpg

    Really poor redial.

    Avoid.

Thank you for the reply - can you point out exactly what about the dial was a dead give-away? (Like in "how to fish" it really helps me see what to look out for)

And yeah this is part of the hunt that makes this all so much fun - and exhausting !

Also - perhaps what would be helpful in knowing - how much variation in dials were there from year to year within certain calibers, and is there a good place to find what dials were original by year/caliber?

The minute markers on the OP watch are terrible. Different lengths, thicknesses, and they meander like a drunken sailor. That's all you need to walk away from it.

After that look at the font. 'Seamaster' looks like no font Omega ever used.

You need to get the reference of a watch you're considering and compare it to known, original dials from that ref.

Also have a close look zoomed in at the movement photos, specifically at the corrosion / wear on the plates and what looks like the result of a watchmaker stabbing with his screwdriver blindfolded.

Thanks for all the info, guys. Super helpful. I've been looking at the watch for a few days now and didn't see the minute hand markers and the font. Really appreciate the feedback!
