It's OK, you're on point. IMO, that's a real buckle from the 1970's.

Some moderator probably moved it 🙄 , with the thought that we did not need two different threads discussing the merits of real and fake Omega buckles.

@Ken
Your buckle looks fine to me. I have one with the same makers mark (the beta like character), which is often seen on other types of Omega buckles. The buckle appeared about 1970 or late 1960´s.

I also have this one made by another maker with a mark, I have not seen on any other buckle. The material is slightly thinner. I suspect it could be fake, but I hope it is genuine!

Thanks everybody for all the info & help. It's good to know it's genuine 😀
I thought I was losing it for a minute! Makes sense that it was probably moved by a moderator.

I started a couple of threads the same as this one on other forums and a few people said they had never seen one like this before.

Thanks again all 😉

Thanks, if it is fake it's a vintage fake atleast. Looks a nice buckle either way.

Old Omega 18mm straps have had 14mm buckles, here is a 20mm lug size original strap with a 15mm aftermarket buckle.

Maybe original 18mm strap and a 14mm gold buckle.

The middle one look like a US produced 1970s type. I do not think this type has been reproduced.
With respect to the 2 other types, there are many which look much the same on ebay and most are reproductions.
It would be nice with good pictures of the back of your buckles to serve as reference.

1. You say the top buckle is aftermarket. I believe you. I'm curious as to which watch that band is supposed to fit. Kind of odd looking band, but it is original IMO.

2. These have been reproduced. I have one in that style. The reproductions do not say "Omega" on the reverse. The bands may very well be original on these. Not many 18mm to 14mm tapered bands are produced anymore.

3. My guess is that it is all original, both band and buckle.

Take care,

For those looking for gold buckles, I'd recommend going for a Montal Watch Fitting's buckle from the UK. These were used in the UK back in the days of national case production. Marker's mark MWF, they should be solid gold and hallmarked with an appropriate date hallmark and a UK Assay Office hallmark (probably Birmingham as this was closest to their factory).

I suppose these are not the original "Omega" buckle (i.e. Swiss made and used on Swiss production cases) but they were all made externally in any case.

When I'm back home I can try and get a decent macro shot of my buckle if anyone's interested...

Here's some of mine for info

Two on the left are recent buys, two on the right came with original watches.

The two on the left 🤔

P1010064_zps3de1412a.jpg

The 'engraving' of STAINLESS STEEL appears to be laser etched dots

The two on the right

I suspect this one is a knock-off too, note the spelling of 'aciernox' and it looks like acid etched markings.

Don't look very real to me.

There are a lot of fake buckles, not just in numbers, but in different makers. Your best bet for vintage is to buy old, scratched up, looking ones, from parties that just have one or two (especially if they have 2, each a different size and style) or singles from boot or flea markets. Look for verdigris and dirt, corroded spring bars and tangs, all good signs.

Sizes that are faked a lot are 16mm, some 18mm. So if you find someone selling a few 13mm and 14mm (which no one wants) and he has one 16, chances are it is real.

You can also buy the new style Omega ones from places like Otto Frei and Cousins.
How's this one look?
Just bought it on ebay for a song.
It's got the wabi-sabi and verdigris and dirt $_57.JPG
