This watch runs but loses a few minutes each day. My son is a vintage watch fan and I’m considering having it maintenanced and giving it to him.

I would greatly appreciate any input. How much might the maintenance cost? Who would be a good Watchmaker to send it to? What year and model is it? Etc.

Obviously no one can recommend a watchmaker without knowing whether you’re in the UK, EU, Aus, US etc.
you should be able to get a good service for around £250 plus any parts from an independent watchmaker

The last photo you show is clearly from a different watch with a rotating bezel, I'm rather surprised no one else noticed!

You might be right. I also noticed in these Omega forums there is also a Zodiac forum. I posted pics of my Zodiac there tonight as well. I must’ve gotten the pics mixed up.

Movement is missing its case clamp and screw, so need to add that to any service if available.

6 models, but 3 discontinued. Maybe on eBay, but need reference number on inside back

Thanks Don, the back that’s on it is a clear back…..a “display back” maybe? I assume that’s not original? Forgive my lack of knowledge.

Oh now I see that photo, someone has installed a watch crystal on the back. Weird.

Very not original

Due to that. I wouldn’t bother restoring it. Probably better off selling it for the movement and using the money towards something else

If this is a family heirloom with sentimental value, please forgive me, but you haven't said that. Please do not invest anything into it. The dial is damaged, the movement is tired, the case-back is missing. Your son might feel obligated to keep it and even try to restore it, and he will never find the case-back.

If your son is truly a vintage watch aficionado, the forum members would be happy to help you find something he would appreciate.

Also, the dial has radium on it. This is radioactive, which isn’t usually an issue if the watch is in good condition. However, the half arsed crystal for a caseback may well not be sealing well so I wouldn’t be giving it to my son
