Omega AD gave me a watch straight out the display cabinet with no stickers

For what it’s worth, I once visited an AD (for Rolex, not Omega) and the SA wanted to show me a new Sub they’d gotten. She brought it out, still in its plastic coffin, all stickered up. Bear in mind, this piece was spoken for—not something I was being offered for purchase. She opened the coffin, removed the stickers from the dial, etc, and let me try it on. Then she replaced the stickers, put it back in the coffin, and returned it to the safe in the back to await its new owner who would never know that I (and probably several others) had tried on his watch before purchase.

Point is, the stickers don’t mean much. 😀

Mate your reply made me laugh also made me think "im defo overthinking this" loll ...I have heard of stickers being put back on watches, and i think thats just wrong! Wanted to know if this is normal or if the Ad was pulling a fast one, from everyones replies it seems its a normal practive (less stress)

As it is my first 'expensive' watch I think im just being overly cautious. Like I know its from an AD, anything happened they will have it back off me no dramas.

Thank you for your reply and anecdote, I really appreciate thats

Welcome to omega forum- now that you have gotten the stickers out of the way, wait for your first real scratch! 😲
In time it will look like you drove over it with a lawnmower, then dragged it behind the car. All part of the love of fine timepieces that’s get worn regularly.
Breathe my friend, breathe and enjoy ….Namaste.

Before pulling the trigger on this watch at this particular AD, I went to another AD....I know for a fact the watch had the caseback sticker on and the AD staff said to me "take a look at the open back its beautiful" and took the case back sticker off...

...no doubt after he rejected my offer for the watch and I left, that sticker was carefully put back on. Makes me think how many times has that sticker come on and off like that

How things change.

I bought my first Omega at an "AD" (a capital city jeweller, there were no ADs, Boutiques, watch specific shops at the time).
Can't remember if it had stickers and I didn't even try it on. I just knew I needed a watch, and my Dad said get an Omega or a Tissot so I got the Omega I saw in the shop. The jeweller took it out of the display case and put it in a red velvet box.
I said "Just the watch mate, I'm going to wear it".
I walked out with nothing more than I walked in with, except for the watch on my wrist and a lighter wallet.

That's how many watches used to be sold, the buyer didn't want the box and that silly paperwork, or if they did take it it ended up in the trash soon after. I know when my grandma bought me my first watch back in the late 50's there wasn't a box or piece of paper in the deal, just the watch.

Still common for airport boutiques, 2 in 5 just take the watch. It’s nutters like us that ohh ahh over a box and stickers.

Watches never get shipped with boxes. Watches go to bond store for customs clearances in a small box and boxes get delivered straight to boutique on a pallet.

ideally, i just want to buy the watch head only, do not even want to pay for / like /or use the most of the stock strap / bracelet

no need for the box/hangtag/stickers etc. and do not want to pay for that either, if possible

I believe Jared locations typically remove stickers and plastic, at least on their display pieces.

Hey OP, congrats on your purchase and welcome!
When I bought my Seamaster Pro years ago from an AD it was straight out of the display cabinet with no stickers. I was just so excited to get the watch I wanted at the price I wanted that I really didn't care. I just walked out of the AD wearing the watch, carrying the box and papers in a plastic bag (with a huge smile on my face!)

Wow that's an amazing story! I guess these functional watches have transfered into such uber luxury items that people when selling on require the box and papers to command a higher price. I useto be the same with my watches under 2k, I didnt care about boxes and papers and stuff, I think this is different because its a 4.5k watch, my first "proper big" watch.

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it. Amazing to chat to someone with invaluable experience

Thank you for the warm welcome

Haha love that! Trust me mate I was the same I walked out of there with a fat smile on my face and full of excitement knowing I beat the AD down to the bare minimum price. It's only when I got home and watched a few videos on YouTube about the watch I realised the sticker thing. I know its trivial but in my eyes it was "I've paid so much money and I don't get the privilege to take the stickers off". But from everyone's help here I've soon realised I'm being over trivial and it's a normal practice.

Thank you for replying to the question, I really application it. I'm still pretty new in this wonderful hobby, I've got loads of affordable luxury watches, I think im being extra cautious because this is the most expensive one till date.

It's 11:10 here, and I'm watching Jeff Buckley doing a rendition of the epic Leonard Cohen "Hallelujah ".

That, accompanied by two medicinal doses of Talisker 12YO means the fact that the wrong prefix has been used is of no consequence.

I knew what @drbarot meant to say.

BTW, are you a real doctor?

Or just a guy called Daniel Ramondo Barot? (or any combination of DRB names)
