I was reading an article which talked about the servicing of the 8500 movement and mentioned that it would be generally a 7-10 year period before servicing would happen. In terms of this movement being in Omega watches in volume, was there a watch before the Planet Ocean models in 2011 that got it . When did the the 300 diver get that movement? It seems like it will be a period of years before we know how well these movements have held up.

7-10 isn't an appropriate span, the normal 5 or so is far more sensible. The first use of the Calibre 8500 was in the DeVille Hour Vision in 2007 followed closely by the Aqua Terra 8500 less than a yea later.

Thanks for the information. Maybe I can ask Aqua Terra Owners from 2008 how the movement has held up.

I put out an earlier post related to the 8500 Co Axial movement and was notified by another collector that the Aqua Terra has had the 8500 Co Axial movement since about 2008. Are there any owners of that watch that could comment about the 8500 movements long term reliability as well as if you have had your watch serviced at this point as it has been about 7 years. Thanks in advance for the information. Stephen

Merged this post back in, generally they've been quite good, there's only been a handful of issues pop up but that's to be expected of any new movement. This is the one I can best remember off the top of my head:

Archer gave a good explanation of the issue there and it appears Omega has already redesigned the parts that caused the issue so new ones should not be affected. The 8500 has evolved over its life and will no doubt continue to as time goes on, and in the past movements like the 33x3 family had upgrades that were performed when they came in for maintenance to remedy issues that were discovered later:
