Could I ask where to buy an open ended leather strap from can’t seem to find any decent ones unless very expensive?

These are my favorite: https://en.accurate-form.jp/collections/open-ended Reasonably priced, and if you're patient they run sales three or four times a year. Look for a period-appropriate box-stitch strap like this:
