Also recommending this Chronostop from Brazil for just under 2k USD, as "the case is seemingly unpolished"[IMG]

I wonder if Isaac Wingold has even seen a Chronostop?

I had to do a quick conversion from Kr but that is a healthy margin even if it is a beautiful watch.

Converted to my currency and converted to dollarz (don’t even know if that makes sense) it is a mark up of $12,000 USD. Nice one.

Not so surprising, given Hodinkee's prior history..

The Hodinkee bashing on this forum always makes me chuckle. Arthur at Shuck The Oyster isn't affiliated with the site in any way, and regardless of how you feel about his asking price, that 33.3 is an amazing watch that was worth being highlighted in a column that solely exists to highlight notable watches for sale from a variety of sources. It's one thing to bring up the Kaplan's link and compare it to the asking price, but to somehow insinuate that they have an agenda and are trying to purposefully inflate prices on certain models...break out the tin foil.

For posterity, this is what an unpolished chronostop should look like...

I can't comment on the 33.3, but the Driver?... well, where do you start?.
I have said previously that Hodinkee has a responsibility to report in a complete and accurate fashion. Once again, an article that confirms my belief that they are, at times, lazy.
If the writer had done what we urge any new member to do, research other examples, investigate the sold prices to determine value, ask a couple of questions. He would have seen that this watch was a rather poor example to use. Including a link to a sub-par watch priced at almost three times its' actual value does not show the level of expertise and guidance that I would expect from a prominent journal.

    PS
I might take flack about the guidance part, but I think they position themselves as a barometer of sorts and in that way they do affect trends.

Kaplan’s charges a sliding scale buyer’s fee as follows:

    9C2753D4-F12F-4F72-B0CC-A55B6919699D.jpeg
So I’m seeing about $5,000 in addition to the auction figure or about $44,000. Seller is asking about $55,000 and is accepting offers. Maybe a 20% markup, not including any transportation costs and possibly a service.

I don’t know, but this seems fair to me.

why did this model end up so expensive, both on Kalpans and also from the dealer? is it all in the black dial?

you can buy such a 33.3 chronograph on chrono24 for 7000-15000 USD - on ebay or OF much less

I would challenge you to find that same case, size, and dial in an equivalent condition for $7-15K. It’s a very rare and well preserved example...not surprising, to me at least, that the prices are in that ballpark.

I think hodinkee has long gone from a simple watch blog to the current state of selling modern and vintage watches, x colabs with watch brands what not.

Both Dials are not original. Original Omega dials from that period have much finer writing and not blotched Railways. this Font is either from the german dial restorer Causemann or Bethge. kind regards. achim

Look at the fletching on the top arrow of the chronograph - these should be well defined in dials of that vintage.
