I hope I'm not treading on anyones toes who is hoping to bid on this, but I thought I might bring it to the attention of the forum, and perhaps for the speedy experts here to pass judgement.

It seems somewhat correct in my eyes, as disclosed, the bezel and hands are incorrect, the serial seems to fall within the range for the 1998-6, the case has been polished, with not overly attractive dial. Either way, I thought it might interest a prospective buyer here who may otherwise miss it (FWIW I have no affiliation to either the seller or the watch). http://www.lawrences.co.uk/Catalogues/fs180118/lot1286.html

    Estimate £2.5-3k excluding 26.4% premium.

Well, at 2.5/3k it could be an interesting daily wearer, but I suspect that it's going to end up at quite a bit of money over that, and it's not a very attractive watch. The jubilee looks cool though :)

I was watching this one. It’s in “D-“ condition or perhaps even “F”. Even as a daily wearer, there are nice and correct 145.022s that I’d rather wear for essentially the same $. The only value on this one is the case.

Dial relume + passable DON bezel + hands + purchase price.

Does that sum equal substantially less than a 2998 in “B-” condition? If not, than what are you getting? At $3,500, I’d be a buyer but zero chance this sells for that imo - over 60 watchers last time I looked...

    Hammer price was £7,500 + buyer’s premium.

I do not believe that l could use this case, at that price, to build a reasonable 2998 for less than what a reasonable and complete one would sell for on this forum right now. As such, that seems to be a hefty investment into what amounts to an average straight lug case and 2998-6 caseback.

As an owner of a scruffy but intact 2998-6 ... my love for my watch is tested by the fact that this parts watch just sold for more than I paid.

It doesn't look like a strong result, but when you add up bezel and hands replacement, you're at market value for a nice later 2998...

That was my point - to me it DID look like a strong result given how much money and time you’d need to put in to it get it even to a reasonable level. As you say, you’d spend that money and end up at the price of a nice one without the effort.
