Hi All. I've owned the watch below for about 2 years. It's currently up for sale on another forum. I was contacted by a forum member advising he thought it was a redial due to the spacing between the Omega logo and the lettering mostly.

From the limited amount of info available on this reference and the patina and fineness of the dial printing, I see little evidence of this, but I don't want to mislead the buyer which is why I am posting here. (Though this is my first post under this username, I had an old account that I forgot the username for so I had to re-register).

Under a loupe, the dial has authentic patina and the lettering looks factory to my eye. I know Omega used several vendors for their dials in the 50s which is what I attributed the lack of an exact variant online to.

In any case, I humbly seek this forum's expertise to avoid misleading a buyer. I bought the watch from JA Meyer Jewelers and paid a pretty penny for it. It was supposed to be from an estate collection.

Here are the pics. Thanks much in advance. I can take some close ups if needed. The dial look refinished to me, script is wrong.

    "AUTOMATIC" looks very irregularly spaced

Definitely a redial, unfortunately, and a fairly poor one. The hour markers are unevenly applied and minute hashes are irregular. The script font is wrong and sloppy. I hope you didn't pay too dearly. I would just keep it as a daily wearer, unless you're looking closely it isn't unattractive at all, IMO.

Well, we seem to have a consensus so far. It must have been redialed some time ago as the dial shows real patina. Yes, I did pay way too much for it. I have it listed for less than I paid but it is too much for a redial.

Ouch...looks like Helen Keller was making dials.

Sad when reputable jewelers sell such bad vintage watches.

I just sent a message to Jeff at JA Meyer to inform (not that I expect any recourse two years later) but I felt he should know considering the premium he took for it. I believe it was an honest mistake since I was apparently duped too. Thanks all who chimed in. If anyone else has input, please feel free to share.

I found this - obviously a different case and I'm not sure on the ref # but clearly the markers and hands (save the red second) are the same as my watch. Obviously the lettering spacing is different:

Its not just the spacing its the fonts themselves which are off.

Agreed, but the markers and handset appear to be the same or very similar. In any case it's a repaint.

Without the intent of sounding condescending I recommend you do a lot of research before you buy and especially before you put a piece up for sale. Ideally you should be able to tell at a glance that the watch you originally posted is a redial. I'm relatively new at collecting Omegas (other brands I've been collecting for a long time) and as you know many telltale signs that you would look for in a redial are common to all brands, but some are unique to Omega, like script placement, fonts, etc. When I decided to start collecting Omegas I took a couple weeks and literally read every single thread on the OF website, including the stickies. Not only is it useful for garnering knowledge but it's also pleasurable reading as well. It's a veritable treasure trove. Along the way you'll also discover mention of ancillary websites that deal with particular genres and subgenres of Omegas, like Speedmasters, etc. that are also great tools of learning. All the best in your collecting endeavors.

I saw your sale post in the other forum and I'm wondering why haven't you updated your new findings?

Thanks and I agree. I suppose I also put too much confidence in the seller and didn't think through the basics. Once I had the watch and got over the initial inspection, I didn't think much about it. Contrary to my ignorance here, I'm not actually a novice and have collected/sold a variety of different vintage watches. This is my first real f-up. Hard lesson unfortunately.
