So i saw this one on the bay in a reasonably clean condition. I wasnt really looking to buy anything but put in an offer nonetheless for an honest watch since most examples out there are either re-dials/relumed /overpolished. Seller accepted my offer. I want to know more about the movement, especially if its one of the earlier nickel movements that r17. 8 came in. All bouquets and brickbats welcome. Sent from my CP8676_I03 using Tapatalk
Case, dial, hands look good to me. Would be easier if you could take a picture of the dial without the crystal, but you need to take off the caliber : on this model, the bezel is more or less decorative and the Crystal is fixed on the middle part. I like this watch. It was also produced with a gold bezel on steel case.
These are seller pics actually. The watch is already in transit and should reach in another 10 days. Any idea on the diameter excluding crown on this version? The seller had no prior experience with watches and could not provide any inputs on the same. Sent from my CP8676_I03 using Tapatalk
Commendable! I saw this one, too, but my attention was on another auction that just closed (and ended in my favor, but that's a story for another time). Wanted a sweep seconds version for a while, and this is the best I've seen in a long time. The R17.8 doesn't look like much . . . . . . but it's remarkable in technical terms. These results are after re-staffing the balance. It had been serviced years prior, but never ran properly until sorting out the root cause of the problem. The good news is that parts are still widely available for this movement. Have it serviced now while parts supply is still flush. Cordially, Art
Thank you for those figures. From my research on the web, I found these to be 31mm excl. crown. Thank you for the encouraging words. Tell us more about the auction you won. I made a substantially lower offer on the asking price and to my surprise the seller accepted. I will surely send it in for Service once it reaches me.
Here's another reasonably priced example (BIN) for anyone interested in picking up a similar watch. Vintage Men's Omega Military Style Mechanical Wind Watch Circa WWII 1943 | eBayPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Has got quite a few watchers on it though, so not sure how long the listing will last.
This looks like the original one for this watch! Maybe it is a spare one properly packed in order to don´t get lost during transit...
