Picked up this mid-60s Omega Seamaster Automatic in a US-cased 14K gold-filled case (J. Wadsworth), with a nicely preserved silver sunburst dial signed Omega Automatic Seamaster and correct applied indices. Caseback is engraved “25th Century Service Award - Roy Weaver - 1966,” which lines up well with the era. Inside is an Omega automatic marked Seventeen Jewels, Unadjusted (US import), running at 19,800 bph. On the timegrapher it’s currently about -30 s/day with very low beat error (~0.3 ms), though amplitude is modest (~150°), so a service is likely due. Crown appears Omega-signed and period-correct. Would appreciate thoughts on dial originality, exact movement ID, and whether the case/dial combo looks right for a US-market Seamaster of this period.

The Seamaster printing looks funny to me for some reason. Kind of thick and blobby.

I agree, it’s a weird one. It kinda looks ok and wrong at the same time. The lume, minute hashes etc look ok but the font looks wrong.

I share @Dan S ’s suspicion.

I attach photos of my 165.003 cal 552. It is also a 1966 model with a 23****** serial number and the ‘Seamaster' printing is far sharper.

That said, if you’ve bought it to wear it, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Thank you for showing your examples. I see the difference. And yes, I bought it to wear finish running fairly well. Although we'll probably need a service at some point.

Thank you for pointing that out, Dan. I paid 425 for so not too bad. But it will need a service.Sometime down the road

For 425 (£,$,€?) I’d just enjoy it and not rush to service it.

Agree. Wear it while you’re looking for an original one, then sell it and recoup some money, clearly stating it’s a redial.
