Hello everyone,

I am currently researching the Omega references 166.0245 and 166.0243 and trying to clarify an apparent discrepancy concerning the caseback references of these models.

I have found several listings for Omega watches where the caseback is marked 198.0059, even though the watch is fitted with an automatic Calibre 1012 movement and the dial explicitly states “Automatic”.

I find this particularly interesting because, as far as I know, Omega references beginning with 198 are associated with quartz or electronic watches. This raises the question of why these watches have a 198-series reference engraved on the caseback when both the movement and the dial indicate an automatic model.

I have already checked spare parts sources such as Boley. Both the case reference 166.0245 and its corresponding crystal reference can be found there, confirming that reference 166.0245 definitely exists. There is also reference 166.0243, which is associated with the day-date Calibre 1022. However, so far I have not even been able to find a photograph of this model through Google.

So my question to the forum members is:

Does anyone here own an Omega with reference 166.0245 or 166.0243 and would be willing to check which reference is actually engraved on the caseback?

Does it also say 198.0059, or is the corresponding 166-series reference engraved there instead?

Since I have already found several listings showing this discrepancy, I would particularly like to know whether this is a recurring combination. Were the casebacks perhaps replaced on several watches, or could there be another explanation? I would not want to rule out the possibility that there is a legitimate reason for this combination.

For reference, I will include a few links to listings where this discrepancy can be seen in the photographs.

Examples:

I would greatly appreciate feedback from owners of these references, photographs of the casebacks, or any further information from reliable sources.

Thank you in advance for your help!
