    Hello,

I have been looking for a while for a nice 166.010, but they seem to be not so common as other models. I have found one that looks good to me, but the price seems to be far to high ($1300). I am also not sure about the crown. What is your opinion?

    Thanks,

Can't really say much about the crown from those pictures.

Looks very nice, but $1300 is higher than what I'd expect you should pay.

Thank you! What would such watches normally cost? I had $roughly 700 in mind from auctions I have been following in the past.

Watch seems in desperate need of a service. Rotor seems to touch the bridge.
If so, then USD 1300 is very high.

I have this model but in the "non chronometer" version. Were the watches you followed also Chronometer rated as I suspect these carry a premium on the price?

Agree with Willem though, the movement looks like it has issues and it doesn't all appear to be the same colour so it might be that a bridge or rotor has been swapped at some point.

    Cheers, Chris

Looks like a nicer than average example, despite needing a service.
$1300 might be a little high but then again, if the condition is above average it might be worth it in the long run... That is, if you plan to keep it.
I always think to myself, "how much would I have to pay to get current model Omega Chronometer?

Thank you all for your thoughts and advice.

I have been waiting for a nice example of a 166.010 (preferably a Chronometer, but not absolutely a necessity) for a while. If I buy one, it should be one in very good condition since I want to keep and wear it. I already have a Omega Seamaster DeVille and a Seamaster 600 in almost mint condition, but always liked how the 166.010 looked. I am not sure if I should go for this one if the movement is not in a good shape. An Omega service would cost me an additional several hundred Dollars making the watch quite expensive in the end.

I saw a gold capped 166.010 recently that was offered for around $400. The dial showed some patina, but not a lot. It seemed to be a good price, but I wasn't sure and didn't buy it in the end.

The price is way to high. +200 bucks for service. the right price should be around 700 dollars. Moreover I can't see if there are Ts around the swiss made. I can olny see dashes.

There doesn't appear to be any lume on the hands or markers.

Price is relative. I had a chance to buy a pre moon speedy in mint condition about 10 years ago. I thought $1500 was crazy.

No one wants to pay too much but you never know, a high price today may become average next year, and a pretty good deal in 2 years.

Im in no way affiliated with the seller, and not trying to convince the OP to spend more than he's willing.

Just for the record, the Chronometer reference is 168.024. This is a dual reference case, so it should have both numbers on the caseback. Everything looks original including the crown, but movement seems to have been neglected.

That is correct. The caseback indeed shows both 166.010 and 168.024.

Is it possible to service the movement without replacing most of the parts (it is important to me that as many parts as possible from the original watch are retained)?

I found quite a few other photos of 168.024 that also had the dashes around Swiss Made without any Ts. So that seems to be alright.

Well it's not a proper service if worn out parts are not addressed, and most likely in this case there will be many that need replacing based on what I see...kind of strange that you would not want worn out parts in the movement replaced...

    Cheers, Al
