Hi all,

I’m pretty new to vintage watches, so apologies in advance if I miss anything obvious - just looking for some guidance before I make a purchase.

I’m considering this as my first vintage Omega. Seller is asking $450.

Details I have:
  • Ref: 135.003-62-SC
  • Movement: cal. 286 (serial ~20.1M)
  • Gold-plated case with visible wear
  • Crown may be a replacement
  • No confirmed service history

My main question is around the dial - it looks original to me with some aging/patina, but I don’t have the experience to be confident.

Also, does the overall condition seem reasonable for the price?

Really appreciate any input - just trying to learn and avoid making a bad first purchase.

Do I buy?

What a cool old watch. Crown definitely a replacement, but no biggie, a correct crown is not too expensive.

Price is in line, but many would think a bit high, given the wear to a plated case.

Are you sure you really like it, in its condition? If you are, I think it's a great old survivor of a watch. Servicing the movement can hopefully be done in the $300 range.

I'd pass, that case is worn to crap. For $450 you could do much better. The movement has some filth on it, and that hairspring looks a little weird.

You can do way better for $450.

The big thing is not to rush in. A couple of the lug holes look really worn (could be camera angle/reflection) but would probably pass to find a better option.

If you like the watch in its shown condition and enjoy wearing it, then maybe try to get the price down a bit and buy it.

It's good to recognize that with the amount of wear it's not an easy watch to sell forward. And future value growth is not that certain because it would probably need quite a lot of work done to get it sold. Though you never know what and when something catches buyer's eye. And I'm on the harsh side of evaluating worn gold plated watch because it's something I don't buy at all for my own collection (only steel or solid gold).

Sorry but it’s a terrible watch with that irreparable damage to case and dial is poor. Please don’t waste your money here take some time to learn more and you will find much more happiness with another watch.
Good on you for asking in advance!

$125 for the movement and chuck the case. Not even worth half that price

Hard pass for me as well! That worn off gold plating down to the base metal is a no-go for me. I'd give 100$ for it. For 450$ you can find something better.

Agree - you're playing a losing game servicing a watch with such a poor condition dial and case.

Rough dial and rough case mean the only value is really in the movement. Not worth investing in at all imo.
