Hi - new to this forum! We inherited 2 watches from father in law. Both really old! The gold one seems in a fine condition but the steel one definitely has had the strap changed. Where and how does one get these evaluated? Don’t know where to start! Thanks for any help!

The steel one is a reference 2627. The bezel is clearly cracked, something which can be fixed. I would not wear this one until this repair has been done, if the bezel is lost it would be very difficult to replace.

Actually I wouldn't wear either one until they are serviced.

The gold one could be a 2846. When you gently shake the watch back and forth do you feel a light thump or a slight whizzing sound?

Both lovely heirlooms.

Tell us where you are located, someone can recommend a good independent watchmaker to service the movements. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT let anyone touch (clean) the dials or polish the cases.

Many thanks for your tips. We’re based in Hong Kong - maybe Omega here does the servicing here. Would that be reliable to have it serviced through them?

Sorry yes the gold one does make a sound when gently shook. I guess you wouldn’t be able to put a general value on them?

A thump or a whizzing sound?

I would NOT recommend sending these to Omega for service.

More like whizzing. Any leads of a trusted watchmaker in HK?

Then probably a reference 2846.

You can use the numbers I've given you to search for additional information on the net.

And just to give you a very rough idea, about 1500$ for the gold 2846, about 500$ for the Seamaster in steel. People might argue it’s a bit more or less here and there, but this is just to give you a ballpark - they’re neither 10k nor 10 quid.

Why do you want the valuations? If it’s to sell them, sel them as is, collectors don’t want watches already serviced and whether it’s a collector or ‘normal’ person who buys them, you’re unlikely to recoup the costs of the service in the sale price.
If however, you simply want an idea of value out of curiosity and perhaps for insurance, how with what @MtV said above, although my feeling is if you sold these in an auction on eBay you’d get slightly less.
