Firstly hi to all. I’m new to this forum and getting back in to vintage watches after a break of a few years. I have a number of constellations from the 60s but I picked up this watch about 5 years back for around $50 . It just caught my eye and I gave it a clean up. Keeps good time and for that price I figured why not. Anyway I was wondering if it is an actual seamaster from around 1949 or has someone just added the dial for kicks on an older watch. The number 10.5 mil seems to correspond to 1947 and the case ref is 2402 -2. Appreciate any help but either way I really like it. Kind regards Keith
possibly had the dial & movement changed at some point? IIRC, only the earlier bumpers had exposed springs, so this wouldn't be a 342/344 either. What Calibre is it? https://www.omegawatches.com/planet-omega/heritage/vintage-details/14830/
Total newb here as well, but is it actually an automatic? Tough for me to tell from the back photos of the watch
Yes, it's an automatic. The first automatic movements were "bumpers", also called hammer automatics. The rotor has a movement of 270 degrees as opposed to the full 360 degrees of modern auto movements.. They're fun to wear, the springs bounce the movement back & forth. & if you can find one for $50, it's a steal just for the parts here's some related reading. https://omegaforums.net/threads/whats-the-deal-with-bumper-movements.48086/ https://omegaforums.net/threads/vintage-omega-bumper.34128/ After you have googled for more info here's a Pop quiz. 1. What was the first omega bumper movement? 2. What was Omega's first full rotor auto movement? 3. Name all the bumper movements. 4. Bonus points, indicate which were chronometer rated.
