So I was looking at the date I joined OF. I still got a few years to go for my 10 years jubilee. But for the old members here:

1. What did OF bring you besides watches?

2. Did the culture of OF change over the years?

3. Did OF change in a way you expected and wanted?

4. What was the highlight and all time low on OF?

And last:

5. How do you see the future of OF?

Cheers guys and thnx for all those years!

I joined in November 2012... so not quite 10 years, but almost so I guess I can play? 👍

1 - I've made some good friends, and a couple of memorable enemies (getting the FBI involved was fun!), I also grew Time 4A Pint events out of the first London GTGs I held for fellow members back in early 2016, and off the back of that a really fun podcast, and more than £40k of Movember fundraising.

2 - Yes. In 2012 there were hardly any of us here. And from memory most of the talk was about Constellations and Seamasters. There was less talk about "investment" as that wasn't really a thing back then (or at least not what it is now).

3 - It got bigger, and with growth lots of changes come. I don't know that I expected or wanted any of the changes, but they generally have reflected changes in the watch collecting hobby as a whole.

4 - There have been lots of good things, and a few not so good things... see "getting the FBI involved".

5 - More of us old farts reminiscing about when we could still find and afford to buy the watches we liked. 😁

1 - This really a community, and I’ve gotten help from many of you out there, watch and non-watch related. You know who you are, and I want to thank you again.

2 - The culture here has gotten more well-mannered. There were not infrequent episodes of back-biting, ganging-up, and snarkiness that could be amusing, but ultimately not healthy for a forum such as this. It’s a more friendly place for everyone.

3 - Most of the changes have been incremental, and improvements. Hats off to the moderators for doing a great job.

4 - I think a highlight is when a new watch gets offered by the Omega company that folks uniformly get excited about; when members posts interesting, well-researched watch info that we can all nerd-out on; and when our resident watchmakers posts their detailed and fascinating repair and restoration journeys. All time low? None that comes to mind…

5 - Personally, I think it’s important to welcome and facilitate an on-going interest in these out-dated little objects that we all care about. That requires us to be really inviting to newcomers, who will the enjoy coming here, and then we in turn will appreciate their contributions.

Soon to be 10 years for me (May).

Great friends. Many years back I messaged a fellow member to ask for help vetting a Seamaster 1000. I had observed him helping others on the message board threads so I figured he'd be receptive to a private message for assistance.

As it turns out, he lived 2-3 miles from me. We became great friends. We hung out often in San Diego. We have both moved away from San Diego, but we still talk often, and I have visited him a few times at his new home. And his watch collection is pretty awesome.

I’m just a noob but wanted to give general warning about meeting strange men online. Avoid especially if they are very friendly. Frequently it goes bad. Your welcome. It’s probably fine if they seem grumpy and miserable like myself I would think.

It's been 8 years for me. I've learned so much and M'Bob said it best; "This really is a community, and I’ve gotten help from many of you out there, watch and non-watch related. You know who you are, and I want to thank you again."

Awe shucks sir. That means a lot. I’ve learned much from you and my other predecessors here.

Thank you.

There’s nobody left after 10 years!

If you check the “staff” list, most of those cats have been here since 2011 and so are the full 10yr members you seek 😁

Looks like @LouS has the next10 year milestone, here in just over a week

For us that only been here since 2017, please tell more about the involvement of FBI..

At least I've been here long enough to see the loss of mr squirrel lol. (He's still here I think) 😗
