I don't know about that, but that was a nice one! I've just literally bought my first 176.007... I can't wait to get it now! :)

That was on my watch (no pun intended) list but didn't bid! It was a nice one though.

Out of curiosity, what's the going rate for these 001's at the moment?

Ok, on a nice one with perfect dial and case (unfinished) original bracelet. Roughly?

Well, first of all mind the difference between a 176.007, a 176.001, and a "transitional" 176.001/007.

The former is somewhat common, the middle and the latter rare.

As for a transitional 176.001/007, as the one in the ebay listing that started this thread, is apparently around $2k! I, personally, would pay considerably more for a NOS version - but these watches aren't everyone's cup of tea (setting aside if any NOS transnationals exist).

For the 007's, the sold history of ebay is sufficient info given the prevalence.

And finally as for the 176.001 proper, I've not seen enough of them sold recently to have a clue.

Finally, I just so happen to be wearing my favorite 007 today, so can't resist over-sharing:

IMO this 176.001 doesn't have tachymeter bezel.

Omega78, I dont understand your point - these cal1040 watches should come with a tachy bezel!!

    Hi Lukmin Ko

Still not sure I believe that these other watches are original ie i,m not sure they left the factory that way

i thought, and i may be wrong here, that the tachy scale and crystal are a single unit - if that is correct, then it is possible that when the crystal was damaged, a lazy watchmaker just replaced it with a generic crystal

happy to be proved wrong, as always

the OVD states that case 176.0001 has tachy scale, and personally, i cant see the point of having a chronograph if you dont put a tachy scale on it!

    Cheers, Paul

The 001 did not have a tachy, had a external bezel, was not a prototype and did have the first very limited run of cal1040's. The ODB is simply wrong regarding 001's.

Omega78, the eBay example that started this thread was not an 001, even though the ad listed it as such. Instead it was a transitional 007, which in all ways looks like the 007, other than the case back has both reference numbers with the 001 number marked through, as the 007 replaced the 001.

Accordingly, the title of this thread as well as the eBay listing is misleading, as the example evening discussed is not an 001 proper, lacking the tachy ring, etc.
