Bought all manual Omegas, now I have an Omega Seamaster automatic, how do you make the damn thing work?
Step 1: Set the time Step 2: Wind it a bit, like a manual Step 3: Strap securely to wrist Step 4: Swing your arm like a windmill 30 times Step 5: Done! (Just kidding about step 4. Your normal movement will automatically keep the mainspring wound, thus the term "automatic")
You can wind an automatic thru the crown. The time and the date set by pulling the crown out one and then two clicks.
Ok set the date and time How long do you need to have it on before it starts going. Can you wind like a manual to get it going?
First off, for the moment, forget that the watch is an automatic wind, and wind the crown about 40 turns. If it runs, put it on and wear it for 12 hours every day for the next week to see if it continues running. If it doesn’t keep running, have it checked. Even if it runs, it would be an idea to have it serviced.
When I wind the crown it does not feel like a manual. Is this normal? If I wear it will it “wind” automatically? So if I wear it all day, and it does not work, the it ain’t workin, right?
Wind it manually first. If it doesn’t run, it’s broke! If it does run and continues to run when you wear it, it is functioning as it should. And, no! manually winding an automatic wind watch doesn’t sound or feel the same as a manual wind. Re-read the answers in your thread. Most everything you will need to know, is there!
Ok, so here is what you do... wind just like a manual wind for a few turns and then..... Do you know how to set the date?
Well damn, I think I have a broke watch here. Is a good looking watch, but I won’t pay more to have it work. Will expertise my EBay guarentee, unfortunately. Damn, like this one. Appears entirely original.
It should feel more or less like a manual as you wind it, at least at first. Unlike a hand-winder, you won't reach a point where you can't wind it anymore. Anyway, it sounds like it's not winding correctly either using the crown or the auto-winding mechanism, so something is apparently wrong. Sorry to hear that.
Not if he's air guitaring Pete Townsend riffs! Dude, slow down. You're making me dizzy, and even worse you're making some ill-advised (actually, no-advised) purchases.
Wish I was that smart. Learning the ropes here. First couple watches I have acquired, the manual ones, are enjoyable. This Omega automatic appears to be a dud. I like the simpler vintage look, this one didn’t work out. Getting more info as I go along. Like i said, never owned a watch till about 10 days ago. This automatic deal thru me.
Just take it to a local watchmaker to take a quick look at it. The. You’ll know exactly what you’re dealing with. Unfortunately any Vintage watch is going to cost you a little more money to maintain as it will need some level of service and care.
