Seen a lot over the years but nothing quite like this, a 6424 with a little customisation Up for auction soon (http://auctions.lyonandturnbull.com...?salelot=456++++++252+&refno=++201380&image=1) Considered sending a p.m. to our good pal @STANDY knowing his love of Rolex and fish
Certainly interesting to see how it goes, makes you wonder what was spent on it ? that is allowing that the auction house has authenticated it which is another question.
The engravings on the sides and the lugs are marvellous... Not a fan of the Dial thou. Engravings Remind me a lot of european hunting rifles...
From the auction listing description: stainless steel case, model no. 6424, Oyster, the body with deep scroll engraving, the dial enamelled and decorated with a coy carp, screw down winder, screw off back also engraved with a coy carp, serial no. 177738 (indistinct) baby blue leather strap Wonder if they meant koi as in Japanese for carp, or if it was in fact an alluring and bashful fish...

I do too, but that's where my love of it ends. There are people who have the "How dare they!" reaction to modifying any Rolex for some reason. I'm not one of those as some of the modified Rolex watches out there are pretty nice, but as much as I admire the skill that goes into such decorations (on movements or cases) they always just seem to be a little overdone for my tastes. Cheers, Al
I would say it's very much a matter of culture. And not the western one which I belong to. If someone likes it, fine with me. Brings back memories of Mr Escobars take on "pimp my Rolly": http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/29/escobar-rolex-seized-colombia-drug-lords-farc
From my experiences in the Far East what we here would consider female (as in pink colors/stones and other) could have a male customer base there.
