Just putting this out there lol... I offered a trade for my excellent condition(just Rolex serviced) full set 14060m Submariner for a good condition Submariner 5513 "watch only" on a well known online retailer... they offered me $6500 for my watch... lol... even my contact at that company said he'd recommend to just sell it on my own if he was in my shoes hehe (at least he was honest). Geeeez how much money do they expect to make in this transaction?!?

That’s about what I’d expect a dealer to offer. Don’t forget you’re paying for their office/shop, salaries, insurance, rates, energy and profit.

It’s very, very rare I’d even bother to think about selling to a dealer.

I'd say the general rule is to think about the worst price you'd accept if selling it privately and then subtract another 30-40%

Sounds about right. If you want full market value price you need to go through the hassle of selling it.

I'm curious what price you expected them offer you?
If you posted it here, what price would you expect to be able to sell it for?

Not abnormal. A nice 14060 can be had on the second hand (non-dealer) market for $7500, so what they offered you is right in line. For context, I just sold my 1603 Datejust to a dealer who offered me $3300. I passed on another dealer offer that was $2900. I got what I paid for it, and had gotten almost no traction here at $4000 so I figured breaking even was better than sitting on a watch indefinitely in hopes I could make $700.

Right now is a horrible time to selle a watch as common as a 14060.

So why did you not offer it here for 3500?

8.5k maybe 9k (lets say 10k to the right buyer)is probably top of the market, I think 6.5k is good offer, Id also say there is a fair markup on the 1513 that's part funding the 6.5k on the 14060.

I'd generally say 30% margin minimum is what a dealer is looking for.

to sell privately you will struggle to get top end of market.

keep it and stick an acrylic crystal on it, and buy something with the delta

Good time to buy rolex, not a fun time to sell, as others have said.

Totally legit critique. Some people on this forum are a crack up. They give pretty dumb/useless feedback lol👍

Sooo with that mentality the lowest price I've seen is $8000 and minus 40% for a full set 2007 14060m?? If you are selling any of your watches the forum would love to know!

But actually, @redzer007's comments mirror exactly what everyone else told you. What you were offered is what you should expect, given the dealer's desire to make a profit. I still don't know what you expected, dealers are in it for the money. If you want more, either sell it yourself, or become a better negotiator.

And BTW, what the heck is a 1513 anyway?

Well the forum does know when I'm selling my watches as I generally do that here first. But why exactly do you think I would be offering them at my suggested dealer buy-in prices?

Don't forget that $6500 saves you the hassle of advertising on numerous platforms, negotiating, dealing with low-ballers, handling payment issues, shipping, insurance, etc.

Ok, I get $3500, but I eat shipping, I have to deal with shipping, and then hope the buyer is happy versus taking $3300 in cash in 24 hours. Not worth it for $100-200 in profit in this instance. I have sold many watches private party, but right now the DJ market is pretty soft and I had a watch I had been gunning for and the funds sounded better than waiting for a sale to materialize.
