Odd Omega.

So, I'm selling watches for an estate sale, this gentleman lived in Japan since the 60s and bought TONS of watches there (over 300) and before he passed he came back to the states. This Omega was one of them. I'm having a hell of a time identifying it because the dial is throwing me for a loop. Any experts out there can shine some light? Everything works on it.

No, on the dial it says SpaceWing.
Yep, looks like a special Memomatic with SpaceWing on the dial. What is the reference number inside the case-back? You showed every photo except for that one.

I was told this was not modified, so he has it as he bought it in the 60s or 70s. So that's why I'm baffled. Maybe he got a dial swap? I couldn't say. But everything on here has consistent wear marks and patterns. The SN checks out, everything looks original.

I've never owned a Memomatic but it all makes sense now. A hobbyist got his hands on it is my vote.

It's not letting me upload pictures. Case back is 166 072, it also has a watch maker mark, but it's in Japanese. Soon as I can upload pictures again I'll send the crown.

Totally. 166.072 is an Omega Memomatic.
Your watch is...well...modified.

I don't know if this hurts or helps. Should I just get a memomatic dial and keep the watch? It's no longer a question of is it genuine, but it is a question of "what was changed". I still think I'm going to keep it, I just don't know the condition. As is, or make it legit. Decisions decisions. I wonder why the space Wing dial I wonder what the thought process was, perhaps aged hands needed more grip for the date? I don't know. It's odd. To me at least.

Why are you talking about keeping it? I thought you were selling watches for an estate sale. Just put it up for sale, value it as parts. Someone will buy it.

As in hold onto it to get it as OG to sell for better value vs just for parts. I'm in talks with the estate manager to see what they prefer. Money now for parts or invest some for a bigger return. I guess I could have worded that better. Regardless, you all have given me a lot to mull over. I'm glad I engaged the brain trust.

Honestly, the Memomatic is a FUN watch, but you'd spend more money getting that back 'correct' than it would ever get for sale. I'd say service it, and enjoy the complication.
