Obviously not original BUT it's so pretty!

I'm sub-novice but have certainly caught the watch bug (OmegaBug particularly). Please comment on this find - it visually intrigues me immensely.
Omega Classic - Chrono24

All thoughts welcome...
  • Comments on the watch itself. No model/name is mentioned.
  • Further inquiries/considerations I should make if I pursue a negotiation.
  • Do "properly restored" vintages participate in the collectable market?
  • Comments or experience with the seller.

I personally can't justify that cost if the collectability value is considerably lower or nill. I just don't have that level financial freedom BUT the piece seems to be calling me it keeps appearing in my imagination on my wrist! 😀 Thanks for all input/suggestions... JoeD

It's eye catching in the photos.

Diameter of the case, case style, dial markers' style, and dial texture all check the boxes. A good, dependable Omega movement is a nice bonus. So is the black dial ... if it was original, but it's not and that knocks it in the head. Discriminating collectors will always look right past it. You will always know it's pretending to be something it's not and that will come to bug you to some extent.

The watch will always be destined to be valued by those who are swayed by "Oooo... shiny" and are willing and able to overpay. That doesn't recommend it to those who are serious about their vintage Omega watches.

Photos are preferred to links so that the thread can remain useful in the future. I did not click on the link. However, based on what you have written, I assume that the seller indicates that the dial has been repainted. If so, the watch has little value and even less collectible interest.

Thanks all for the info & etiquette! It's still very pretty but interest waning. Noelek's statement "...will always know it's pretending to be something it's not and that will come to bug you to some extent", rings true to me.

Everything said is true. However, it is still an attractive watch. If it's priced correctly for what it is (redial), you could still wear it and enjoy it. It's not going to appreciate in value, but if inexpensive, then you can just wear it until you find what you're after. Collectible and correct watches tend to be expensive. Sometimes we can be afraid to wear those expensive, correct watches. Maybe you could wear this and enjoy it while you look for that right watch. If the price is right.

Edit: I should add this advice that every new collector will hear: buy the best condition watch you can. I ignored that for years, but soon came to understand it. At some point our tastes and budget changes, so we want to sell something for something else. It's much easier to sell a good condition watch. But sometimes a watch is just a watch.

Indeed … Nothing wrong with a nice fashion watch. This is indeed attractive. The restoration is disclosed so no harm no foul.
