    I would like to add... I don't understand the functional reason for this. The "screws" added to the case do not seem to have anything to do with the strap that has been fitted.

    A wild uneducated guess, screws hold the case in position ?

    and the one above has truly been savaged:(

    There is however a more thoughtful way of doing this, with a fresh blank of steel rather than killing the original case (credit to Chuck Maddox for the idea)

    Regardless, if the movement is any good can unplug it (? undo the set-screws?) from that one and plug it into a fresh case. I don't think Omega has any left but they are around.....
