Now that the cal. 321 re-introduction dust has settled...muted excitement.

I had always thought it would be great for the company to re-introduce this caliber, from two narrow perspectives: first, it would be great to have a two-tiered traditional Speedmaster offering, one with the cal 861, and a higher-priced 321 edition. Hesilite, non-exhibition back...standard fare.

Next, the thrill of not hunting for, nor worrying about obscure 321 parts was a very exciting concept indeed. Wear the crap out of the watches you really like, knowing that if something breaks, or you grind a wheel down to a nub, there will always be a trove a replacement parts to fix them.

So when I heard the re-introduction news, I was caught up in the excitement wave like everyone else, sans Dennis. But, like a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I am stuck in the bleachers with my banner held limply at my side.

It's of course not news now that the "new" cal 321 will find its way into a precious-metal case (really? Did you have do this just to bump the price point?), plus we are not even sure that we can seamlessly drop a part from this new iteration into one of our old gems.

So, yeah, I'm kinda underwhelmed, overall.

Well I think it is obvious that such a move deserves the right ingredients - gold case for the 1. re-introduction seems perfect to me. There will be more comming up and I am convinced there will be also steel among them...
Regarding exchangability: Omega told us the parts can be exchanged - in theory.
The movement will certainly be used also in other cases and maybe also in other ranches than the Speedmaster...

I doubt that it’s in anything but a speedy. It’s a small limited run, like the one they did last year of the 18chro. I would not expect anything more then a small run especially as they have said it will not be a Apollo LE. It’s even being made by the same group inside Omega the Omega Atieler Tourbillion.

Until they announce an actual watch/watches and official pricing, I find it hard to be either excited or disappointed yet.

Okay, I sorta get that, but isn't it a little like enjoying football, and finding out that your home team has made it to the Super Bowl, and containing your emotions only until the final score is posted?

After a 12 month drought, the Patriots are back in the Super Bowl 👍

One has to admit, it's good to be Tom. There are very few professions in life that, even if you lose the big one, you get to drown your sorrows in piles of money and a super-model wife.

The 60th LE already showed us that there'll be no seamless drop.

It's all about money, not about passion.

I’m willing to bet my best condition 321 Speedy this surely can work. What is unsure is if 1) our favorite watchmakers will get access to 321 parts and 2) omega will provide a non-destructive after-service, like our favorite vintage watchmakers provide, on 321 watches, restoring movements only...and preserving all other properties.
