·I had always thought it would be great for the company to re-introduce this caliber, from two narrow perspectives: first, it would be great to have a two-tiered traditional Speedmaster offering, one with the cal 861, and a higher-priced 321 edition. Hesilite, non-exhibition back...standard fare.
Next, the thrill of not hunting for, nor worrying about obscure 321 parts was a very exciting concept indeed. Wear the crap out of the watches you really like, knowing that if something breaks, or you grind a wheel down to a nub, there will always be a trove a replacement parts to fix them.
So when I heard the re-introduction news, I was caught up in the excitement wave like everyone else, sans Dennis. But, like a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I am stuck in the bleachers with my banner held limply at my side.
It's of course not news now that the "new" cal 321 will find its way into a precious-metal case (really? Did you have do this just to bump the price point?), plus we are not even sure that we can seamlessly drop a part from this new iteration into one of our old gems.
So, yeah, I'm kinda underwhelmed, overall.
