Hello.

I'm looking for an OMEGA Speedsonic f 300 Hz "Lobster".

This foto belongs to: https://artisansoftime.com/products/omega-speedsonic-lobster-ref-st-388-0800

My current knowledge is mainly based on this video clip:

And of course, I've already looked at a lot of pictures on the internet.

And of course I've already read a lot (maddox, old omegas.com, etc.).

And I have now made four unsuccessful attempts to buy such a watch.

I would be thankful for any helpful information.

Kind regards
Smilla

Dear Fatcat.

Thank you for your comment.

I hope my english writing is understandable for you.

Lucky you to get one this easy.

What all my 4 attempts have in common:

- I asked for fotos about some details ... no answer or fotos
-- fotos from the serial number in the documents * and on the movement
--- so I can check that these are fit together ... authentisity
-- actual fotos
--- the Day-Date showed a great difference to the date of installing the offer
Only one example =
Mostly the second hand of the stopwatchfunction wasn't in the correct zero position
* = 3 of the 4 offers the watch was without documents

- I asked for more informations about some details ... no answer
-- had the watch a service or revision ... if yes when and from whom
-- when was the last battery change
-- does the Day-Date change smoothly
-- from when exactly were the fotos taken
Only two examples =
2 or more Fotos from the dial showed exact the same time
But there is a gap of a few seconds between each photo ... inevitably
2 or more Fotos showed the installed battery but the dial showed the exact same time
Logically, the seen battery must be empty.
Therefore the question arises again: "When was the last battery change?"

- I asked for possible price negotiation ... no answer
-- all offers I found were rounded and exchanged into USD 3000 till 4000 $
--- but IMHO the price wasn't appropriate for the seen condition of the watch

Maybe you call me nitpiking too, but when I have to pay that much money
I want the watch in the best possible condition it could be.
I have no problem buying a "cheap" watch and then spending more money to have it serviced
so that it is in good condition and I can enjoy it for a long time.
I also have no problem exceeding my limit to a certain degree, but at some point it has to stop.
And if, on top of that, there's rudeness in the form of "not giving an answer", then I'll just quit.
I guess you would act almost or exact the same kind.

Kind regards
Smilla

Hi Smilla

To chase a Lobster dont use the Speedmaster way , you have to know the following things:

The last F300 overhauled at Omega was in 2020 when all the movement parts they have reach the minimum level that they keep for eventually the museum watches,

3 years ago they sold the last full service bracelet, no extra links available , the only part available is the Glass via a watchmaker.

To Asses properly the pictures of the bracelet interior and exterior ( no dings on the outside and no links unsoldered the 3 first) also if the bracelet is full length 3 links per side will fir 185mm wrist , finding links not easy also and expensive the last around 150 US$.

You did right about asking pictures of the function as you said most of then say battery is new and nothing move in beetween the photos that means not run or the seller is not willing to really change the battery.

About the dial there is 3 ( Mirror , dark grey and rarer a grey going to the blue ) like any dial to assess the mirror is great but 0 spider looks like some sellers sell the spider as a good patina 馃榾)))

If you find a super clean and working fine without box and papers 2.0 to 2.5 K is a correct price , personnalit茅 for this king of watch box and papers are not really a +

The other point some times the day counter is not jumping in one shot but generally is easily fixable or you can live with it because when it jump and stay in the middle you do another 24 hours and back then they flip it 100%.

Dear Paul.

Thank you so much for this comment.

I answer one by one.

Please have in mind that I already read a lot.

Yes, I don't use the Speedmaster way to search.
Always Speedsonic or "Lobster" or both together.
Mostly without f 300 Hz, as this leads to too many hits from "normal" Speedsonic.

Together for overhaul, bracelet, parts and glass ... good to know that.

Thank you that you say I'm right to ask for more details in any way.

I like the mirror dial most.

As I wrote before I have no problem to by a watch with issues.
I'm willing to spend more money to fix the issues ... for long-lasting joy.
But than the price have to be appropriate.

So, for your better understanding, I explain all 4 attemps one by one in a short overview.

Attempt 1:
Watch price called 1500 $ ... no papers no box.
After my request the seller told me the watch is actually in for revision.
Since I asked if the costs of the revision goes on top no further answer.
Seller have not very good feedbacks.

Attempt 2:
Watch price called 3400 $ ... no papers no box.
After my request about the not correct second hand of the stopwatchfunction
no explaination from the seller.
Since I asked for negotiation no further answer.
Seller have not very good feedbacks.

Attempt 3 (IMHO the nicest one but ended sadly):
Please keep in mind, this offer was from 2022, and when I inquired whether the watch
was still available, pointing out that the offer was already 3 years old, the seller wrote,
"Yes, the watch is still available, but so far no interested party has contacted him with
whom he could reach an agreement.
"
Watch price called 3000 $ ... no papers, only newer box, but second complete movement !.
All fotos were really nice and 19 in total.
By himself he told me that the watch was stored 2 years ago and never touched again.
The battery was removed before storage.
We had a nice phone conversation and agreed on a lower price, which really surprised me.
I asked for his bank account data (IMHO the safest way to pay) but since no answer anymore.
Seller have good feedbacks.

Attempt 4:
Watch price called 4000 $ ... with papers and the original box !.
After my 1st request 10 days no answer so I canceled my 1st request from my mail account.
Then, after another 4 days, I had completely given up on, I received an email from the seller.
After my request about the not correct second hand of the stopwatchfunction
and the not running watch although the battery was included and visible in photos
no explaination from the seller.
After my request for a foto of the page of the warranty booklet where the serial number is
written, cause a foto from the movement with readable serial number on it was shown, to
check they match (authentisity), no foto.
Since I asked for negotiation no further answer.
Seller have no feedbacks.

- - - - - - - - - -

Just today I contacted the seller from attempt 3 again and asked for a second chance.
But I think I want get an answer.
Really sadly, cause this watch I'm really interested in.

Have a nice Sunday.

Kind regards

Hello.

What a nice clip at youtube I found.

I guess the description speeks for itself.

"With crown in, the tuning fork is vibrating at 300 Hz.
The video was shot under a 299 Hz strobe light to create the apparent 300x slow motion."

Good vibrations too. 馃檭

Dear SpeedyPhill.

Only one thing of this dial IMHO disturb me:

This dial IMHO isn't a radial dial.

But, this is IMHO not the right place to discuss this issue.

So, pleace, no further words about what is a radial dial.

This place is the place for a talk about the Omega Speedsonic f 300 Hz "Lobster".

The short clip I showed was only to show how the tuning fork movement works.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

Two things for you personal to think of:

1st:
To write "Hello" at the beginning is a thing of good behaivor, also to write a "good bye".

2nd:
To write your name, like Fatcat, or even just your nickname, like me, is also a thing of good behaivor.

I simply like it when someone shows good manners.

But only just to blurt something out is a thing of bad behaivor ... think about that.

I hope I didn't bother you to much.

Kind regards

Dear Paul.

Sorry for my delated answer.

I had to take care of other things ... c'est la vie.

Since I wrote to the seller on Sunday, Dec., 7th, requesting a second attempt to buy
the watch, I have not received a reply to this day.

That means, that you're right with "no luck on your side".

Again ... c'est la vie.

So, from my side no more to tell in this post.

Have a nice Holiday Season 2025 *, a good New Years Eve, and best wishes for 2026.

Kind regards
Smilla

* = hope you can enjoy this
