Please help me find my daily watch. My 'collection' consists of 2 vintages. A Rolex 5513 m/first and a '321 speedy. Neither of them will be worn on the beach as you can imagine. For that purpose I have my Seiko SKX007. But I want something in-between. Like if the new Ingenieurs were nice, or if the 1861/9300 Speedys were more robust. Or if the new JLC Polaris had a more rugged look. The Omega, JLC, IWC, etc divers are too big for everyday wear, and I do like my Seiko for that purpose anyways. Any suggestions?

Thanks Standy. It was more if there were suggestions for a non-diver, mechanical, rugged watch that could also go with a suit n' tie. I'll sift through the thread to see if there's something there. Something maybe like the IWC Mark XV or 3706.

    i also know this

for me all modern watches "feel" a bit wrong as i really like the charme of a vintage. the only watch so far (and i tried a lot) which gave me the WOW feeling was the seamaster300 60th aniversary edition from last year.

No diver, mechanical, rugged watch, goes with suit and tie.

( don't own a suit as I live in northern Australia  and if the Rolex guys think a sub goes with a suit )

Yes, ofcourse it will be something I like, but thats tricky. I like the FOIS, but think I will tire of it. I also like the JLC Polaris but it's overpriced. I like the vintage Subs, but everyone has them. For new watches, Swiss manufacturers seem to be very .... 'clever' ... in their marketing right now, and I want to get something that will be classy and rugged and well used, also after 5 years. Rolex and Omega seems best at this, but I must say Omega is fanning out aggressively with new collections I dont know will hold their value. I used to love IWC, but now ... hmm less so. Maybe the Explorer series will do it for me.

GS Snowflake. comes on a bracelet so it can be both casual and formalish.

Or perhaps the Panerai Due might float your boat.

I was thinking the same thing. A 42mm Panerai would check a lot of those boxes..

Taking a 50% hit should you get bored on the Panerai or GS would be painful...

The snow flake is very interesting. Will spend some time on that spring drive. Looks interesting and maybe deal-breaking.

How about a Tudor Black Bay? The GMT or new smaller one?

I'd like to like Tudor Black Bay, but I don't. And it's a regular diver. The GMT on the other hand. Then rather the real thing. Looking at the Rolex Explorers (40 and 42mm) and GMTs. Think the old(er) Explorer 16570 might do the trick.

The explorers 16570 would be nice though if you're getting them you should get them soon as their prices (esp tritium dial ones) are climbing fast.
If not perhaps you can consider the new railmasters. 40mm case, anti magnetic and 150m water resistance.

+1 for the 16570. Have a polar dial and I love it. I think it's a rugged yet refined watch that you can wear every day. As kaisiang has said, prices on the steel sports models are going up every day.

I'm pretty sure my snowflake trades for more than I bought it in 2013. Not saying you're wrong, just that as long as you buy at a good price today someone will buy it from you for something similar tomorrow (not 50 percent less).

In Europe, new Seiko prices have gone up considerably in the last 5 years... mix of exchange rates and other market factors. :(

And if your buying in a Seiko boutique in Europe, they’re about 25% more than in a Seiko boutique/AD Asia, and often as much as 50% more than the grey market... so if you’re buying one from the shiny shop, rather than the grey market, you’re going to be taking a big hit on the initial price.

As you say though, if you pay a good price to start with... you’re winning. :)
