I saw this photo from Rory McIlroy's news conference yesterday in Dubai and scratched my head for a while, trying to figure out what he was wearing. I know that he has a predilection for wearing the Dark Side Of the Moon so this image had me stymied. At first I thought it could be the new Sedna FOIS, but the case seemed too big and the colour of the strap was off, too. For a brief moment I even wondered if he'd left Team Omega and maybe this was a Rolex Daytona or some other maker's chronograph. But I knew he still is (contractually) an Omega man, so then I thought maybe it was a Grey Side Of the Moon, but with a non-standard issue strap. Any other (or same) guesses? Full disclosure: I'm now pretty sure I know the correct answer.
It looks like it's probably a Dark Side with the light catching the dial in such a way that it appears metallic silver. Could certainly be a Grey Side with a cordura strap though.
@Andreas , @abrod520 -- you guys are brighter than me. Yup, it's Rory's preferred watch, the DSOM. I was faked out by the light reflected off the super-glossy dial and bezel. I found another photo from the same news conference that solved the mystery for me.
Speaking of Omega and golfers, I stumbled across this image today while looking up info on a swing analysis gadget. I found it interesting that Michelle Wie's Omega watch (a Ladymatic, in exactly the same configuration that I bought for Mrs. Jones recently) was displayed so prominently in an advertisement for an entirely different product.
The Ladymatic was the first and only choice for a wedding gift for the new Mrs. flw (my college sweetheart and first fiancée from many years ago) ... I offered to buy her a Rolex (both her parents wear them, and I have a Submariner in addition to my SMPc) ... She wouldn't hear of it. She wears the dark grey dial with diamond hour markers and loves it. BTW, this is a great thread ... Let's see who else we can find (in addition to the brand ambassadors) to add to the list!
I think they might have some language in their contracts with Omega insisting that they wear their watches in all public / endorsement appearances. One of the e*trade spots featuring Kevin Spacey on TV right now includes a pretty blatant shot of his IWC, a brand that he has a contract with.
Yes @Mad Dog , you are in a special class of notability here I wonder how many Forum members have developed a sudden craving for Dunkin Donuts coffee after viewing one of your posts? If you could find a way to monetize these referrals you might be able to quit your day job!
Adam Savage from mythbusters wears a PO chronograph and he seems to love it long video, have a look at 6:50
Few people are more fond of their Diver 300m than this fellow. The watch is reported to be a gift from his late mother.
You made my list. I think everyone in https://omegaforums.net/threads/wruw-today.567/page-1662#post-358754 deserves a notable in my book
