i know everyone here is a fan of VisionVintage :whistling:, I’m curious what the consensus is on this NOS constellation (besides the price). The lugs and medallion look insanely untouched, though there is a bit of schmutz under the case back (though possibly due to a melted gasket), and a spring bar that appears to have seen some moisture. Anyway, I’m not interested, especially at over $5k, but I’ve never seen such a pristine example so here we are...

Beautiful watch and set for sure, but that price is wild especially for a gold cap.

But then again, try to find another one in that condition...

Wow. This is the first time I’ve ever seen an untouched observatory medallion. Just wow.

He must have wet his pants when he snagged that one but I think he might have paid more than he'd like to, thus the insane price.

No inside case back pix, but sure sign of rotor wear on movement, especially on one pix listed at sellers site.

    Coincidence?

So when someone says “unpolished” in their sales listing, just link this post and say “ummm, I think not”

I hadn’t noticed the wear on the rotor. This is an odd piece in my opinion. A few signs of wear that don’t line up with the overall pristine condition. But while laser welding and lapping are fairly common these days, doing so on a gold cap seems more trouble than its worth. And it wouldn’t explain the medallion.

    Its a bag of bits

Why is cal 564 mentioned twice for instance?

And why the different colours on the movement pieces?

Buyer beware if you ask me

Do you mean the 654? Those are the last three digits of the serial number:

    This...

@Peemacgee - having brushed sides on one of these isn't correct, right?

FWIW, I don't think that the movement parts look as if they came from different places. Looks ok to me.

Well, if someone had asked me, off the top of my head, I would have said no.
However, having just looked at my gold cap, pie pan, 168.010 under a loupe, the answer is yes.
The horizontal and vertical brushing is correct - something I hadn’t noticed before.
(I must retrieve my SS versions at some point and see if they are the same)

Thank you for posting this @Poday - always good to add to the knowledge data base.

The watch has been used at some point as the medallion stars are slightly worn (top left) and the rotor does seem to show signs of rub. (Which must be very unlucky due to the apparent light use) it is odd that the only image ‘missing’ is the inner case back.

A truly stunning watch but a very silly price.

Nice watch for sure, but for the same money I'd be looking for an excellent condition solid gold Deluxe

Nice watch for sure but I'm a little suspicious.
    - rotor rub
    - re-machining and brushing on a capped watched
    - swirls in the brushing
