I'm new to collecting Omega and am looking for a constellation with date. I saw this on German ebay advertised as used but 'like new NOS'. Consequently v high price, but prices here in UK are high too.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231424034638?trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:ITPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

But when I looked closely it looked like a redial with incorrect hands.
I queried with vendor who said "clearly you know nothing about Omegas..."
    Is it really ok? Neil

The 12 O'clock marker is not straight with the rest, there is a problem !!!
The price is for a solid 18k model.

551 is a non-date movement although the watch clearly has a date, I actually had a double take looking at the lugs... at one point that thing was a dogleg case, I almost thought it was one of the curved lug cases from the pics until seeing the side of the lug where its been polished so hard its worn right through the gold capping. That's meant to be a highly faceted / sharp edged case believe it or not.

Not to mention the re-dial, over polished case, ill fitting yellow gold crown and lack of movement pictures...

    ....as for the price:eek::confused::cautious:

The 6 o'clock marker also appears to be misaligned, but not as bad as the one at 12. Also, the dial printing does not line up at the 5 o'clock marker. Lots of problems with this one...

I have no watch expertise, but do have some people expertise. If a seller responds to any question with an insult........run. No exceptions.

agree, leave this munter watch and the seller with his delusions. in the meantime, keep looking and keep asking this forum for verification before you buy anything. you wont regret it

Thanks for the reassurance. Do sellers get away with this stuff? Isn't it fraud?

Its eBay so yes, they do get away with it. Buyers just have to be careful and educated.

Until proven otherwise, I personally think the entire watch, perhaps with the exception of the movement is counterfeit. The dial and case are off too much.

Figures on the dial are not crisp enough and the small stars on the back are to large.

So is it a good watch or not?

If good, is the price OK?

    RUN AWAY.

Not even close to NOS and at the very least contains suspect parts (case back, dial).

Queried it with the seller. He now says it's a cal. 561. Claims it was misread from a handwritten document. His reply was quite polite.

Who cares about a typo on the caliber number - that watch is a POS, not NOS.
