I’m playing with the idea of purchasing another watch, I like Nomos and what they are doing, the design, the in house movement, etc.

I like the Grand Seiko polishing, the fact that the 9F movement is made in house completely, that it is assembled by hand, that the movement is sealed and in no need of servicing for 50 yrs.

I have a budget of around $1500, up and down a couple of hundred.

A couple of pictures of examples of watches I like are included.
I want to buy used, and for what’s i have seen, in occasion you can buy either watches for around $1600

Any and all input is welcomed

    Thanks in advance

The 9F IMO is simply a more finely finished, more horologically interesting watch than the Nomos. I myself am strongly considering one. Of course I had in hand the special edition with the sapphire back in April but Mrs S was growling at me. It haunts me still. I know some may see this as blasphemy but the Japanese are really taking quartz to the next level.

Grand Seiko easily over the Nomos in my opinion.

Love both makers, but in this instance I say Grand Seiko... their watches are exquisite and I can almost guarantee it will get a serious amount of wrist time.

I say Nomos for a more original aesthetic and for a solid movement
Seiko is too much like a more famous watch

My thoughts exactly, I’m at a point where the watch after this one, may take me a few years to save up for, so I’m trying to consider everything, before pulling the trigger.

    I appreciate your input

I would take the Nomos as it's really enjoyable to watch the finishing on it. A good friend of mine has one, and it never ceases to impress me.

I like nomos... but that ones a little to much I need to be an architectural professor and wearing tweed to wear.

As noted that GS reminds me of something....

Have you considered a Junghans Max Bill?

I love the Nomos but I would get the tangente without the date complication and blued steel hands personally. They just look so modern and stylish... so what if you look like a architect

For a forever watch you can't beat that. Might as well buy it new though.

Personally I don't see it looking that much like another brand. only a passing resemblance.
I would prefer a case with a more vintage dressy look though.

Though I think it's a real shame that they only do this 'Duo' version in 33mm.

Does it have to be one of these two?

What about a nice Oris, Tag Heuer or a classic Longines.

I like the Nomos dial aesthetics, but can't get past the anorexic lugs :(

Seiko all day. I have two 9F watches and they are beautiful pieces.

I have both of these. For me, the Nomos wins, but only just. The GS is just so well put together, and the 9F so accurate it is a far more practical choice. And fit and finish of GS is something to behold. It looks like a crafted piece of jewelry.

I suppose I favour the 'architect' (Bauhaus) style on the wrist. More like a finally crafted piece of machinery.

So consider doing what I did, buy both. ;)
