Won this beauty from Sweden with a modest bid. Seller claims 14k case, I have not examined the photos for hallmarks.
As you can see, the case seems to be locally sourced, without any reference. If this is the case (no pun intended), will I get any useful information from an extract from the archives?

I did not have the courage to bid because of no gold hallmarks, even though the case is made by J-P Brandt my feeling was there should be gold hallmarks still. But I have little knowledge in this area.

I examined the case carefully on the suprisingly high resolutioned pictures and only proof of it being 14k gold is the thin ”14K” marking below JPB on your picture.

Thanks for your help, @Skrotis and @hejsam ! Now I am more confident in receiving a non-tampered watch.

I have seen a few of these watches with flat crowns. What do you all think was correct - flat or bowler?

Dang (but thanks) - I think you are right. OTOH, a flat Ω crown with close to original dimensions should be possible to get.

I would put a smooth crown on - IMO would be better considering the age of the watch but a signed crown would also be Ok

- I just love to read the thread about the watch i have just sold to felsby. 😀 I am also the photographer. And yes, the crown should be flat on this model. I have not much to ad here about the watch, I just hope felsby will be pleased when the watch will arrive shortly. I will not promote me as a seller here, but I can just mention that I always give the byuer the right to return the watch if not happy.

Here are some additional high resolution pictures...

Are these hands steel? I was watching this auction, but refrained from bidding because I find it highly unusual that a gold cased watch would have steel hands.

Perhaps its the lighting, and perhaps I am misinformed but I have never seen a 30T2 where the hands don't at least match the numerals, or, indeed on a gold case not also be gold. The only watches where the hands do not match the numerals as far as I am aware are blued hands, where the numerals are black.

I do think the watch is stunning nonetheless, and sold for a price similar to what I would have bidded up to, had I been convinced that it hadn't been played around with. My personal conclusion was that the dial is original, as are the original hands, but perhaps not an original case, although of course I could be wrong. I would have bidded, but was not confident to do so at that price.

If any members here have any other experience with steel hands in gold cases, please enlighten me 😀

Ollie

Hello fellow OF member felsby! No I have not read that one - yet 😉 I do have professional experince regarding astronomy (navigation) and the late Royal Astronomer Neville Maskelyne has played a significant roll in the history of navigation. I use a couple of studio flashes and white reflectors, with black velvet clothing as a background. Pictures are mostly taken with a macro lens and a high quality zoom lens.

A cell phone and just placing the watch near a window, using some white paper for reflective purposes will produce j fine pics if the daylight is sufficent. I hope you will enjoy the watch!

I asses the watch as all genuine. Just a replaced crown. Here is a picture of a similar one. The case is marked JPB as mentioned which was the Swedish agent for OMEGA.

Thanks! Yes, it may only be 33mm, but I have matchstick wrists, so it will look fine. Just gotta find a replacement crown at some time.
