I buy storage lockers and this week I found an amazing 1968 speedmaster with box and paperwork. I looks like it has only been worn a couple times. My only problem with it is the dial doesn't say Professional. Any ideas why this would happen? The movement is 260xxxxx so I know it isn't an earlier watch.

You'll have to check the reference but something's wrong there as pre-Pro and asymmetrical case don't go together, either the case was replaced at a service for some reason or the watch was put together by someone after the fact like that. What does the paperwork say about the reference number?

Looks nice, even if it is mis-matched parts. The bezel is especially nice. Do you have pics of the inside of the caseback or the paperwork?

The bezel is great the band is super tight with almost no scratches. I haven't opened it up but I will take it to a friend who is an Omega dealer next week and have him open it so I can check it out.

Actually being a 26M serial means it'd have to be a 145.012 with a 105.003 dial on it, the last block of both 105.003s, even the ones sold in 68 and onwards were 25.44M as were the last 105.012s. Also the endlinks are clearly 20mm not 19mm so its unlikely this started its life as an Ed White and was recased.

The other possibility is 145.022-68 with Cal 861, as that also fits the bezel bracelet and movement serial range but not the dial and hands either.

The end links are 516 which is 20mm. I saw on ebay someone sell a later serial number and her watch had the 321 so I assume mine is 321. My watch was purchased at a jeweler in Far Rockaway NY call Skolnick and Kravit in Oct of '68

This watch was made for do-it-yourself moon travelers. That's why is doesn't say professional on the dial.

So when you say 68, you mean the paperwork says its was sold in 68, not that it has this date stamped inside the caseback?

If that's the case it may be a 145.012-67 which for some reason has had a replaced dial.
