Just saw this posted on Puristpro. Comments? Mine certainly has it. Are people just not seeing it because it is very fine and crisp ?
What does the newer sharp Ultraman mark we are talking about have to do with "crude older versions" ?
You called the older version “crude”. I thought it was a weird word to describe it... crude makes it sound (to me) like the old version was scratched on with a dull knife. I then took and posted a pic of the symbol on my Ultraman, which (to me) looks the same as the one on all my other hesalite Speedmasters. Though none older than 2008
Interesting, the one on my Ultraman very precise and finely made, smooth and sharp, like a knife edge. While my older ones look mechanically cut in
Here’s a pic of the eldest in my possession. There could be a difference I can’t see. Surely suppliers and/or methods change
One more; man these pics are difficult. Maybe the top-left of the symbol’s arc looks a little flat? Or maybe the lighting / iPhone / shakyhands
It's there, just perhaps harder to spot. Yes, they can't seem to put it on straight, and that really puzzles me. Anyway, just use the light off your phone and look around the center:
ST1 is also a lot finer and crisp than my 2013 speedmaster normal ( speedmaster normal - funny I have to use this so people know what I mean )
Great photo! Perhaps the sharpness of the orange hand takes your eyes away from the symbol... Love the applied logo as well, wish the ‘Speedmaster normal’ had this.
Please note that the "Ultraman" uses the exact same crystal as any regular production Speedmaster Pro...
Omega is not concerned with the orientation of the symbol, but of the line in the tension ring - they want that line towards the bottom of the dial so it's less visible. So they are paying attention to the orientation, but just not the orientation of the symbol.
That’s fair enough, however when my Seamaster was serviced the new crystal was installed with the symbol on ‘straight’ and I presume the watchmaker got the tension ring in the right place at the same time. Is it a time thing at the factory - and do you install them any which way or with the symbol straight? I guess I must have more OCD than I thought
