Can anyone tell me any information about the short period of time when Omega produced the Speedmaster without the space/moon information on the back of the case?
I'm assuming you're referring to the very rare version of the 145.022-71? Just after the straight writing caseback of the 69 and prior to the text currently seen on the Moonwatch, there was a caseback similar to the more modern 3594.50. It only had the stamped small central hippocampus and no writing. There was a photo of one posted here recently by @gemini4 but I've never seen another one.
I bought one in 2013. The preowned watch store did not know about it, nor did I. I learnt about the no nasa story later. Google has some entries on it. As for value, 2 were sold by a Geneva collector, one for about $ 7500, the other for $ 9000. Hodinkee or Fratello published an article including an interview of Jim Ragan, the NASA official in charge of watch testing during the Apollo years. He confirmed the North Nasa story that case backs were left "blank" as Omega awaited Nasa approval for the new wording
Also, the No Nasa has a blank outer caseback (only hippocampus + "speedmaster"). On the inside, there are the Omega stamps and 145.022 ST71. The very short time for the no nasa anomaly was 1971. This probably involved a few hundred watches only.
My no nasa with heuerville Nubuck handmade strap. Do note that while the caseback is 145.022 ST71, the movement itself appears to be from 1970
Can you please post the back of your watch in 5 separate posts with an internal shot verifying a -71 ? In another 6 different post can you explain how a DON bezel is on a watch that should have a DNN? I also think 2 different questions are here... The OP's question appear to be about the "pre-moon" watches from 1957-1970. Yours if the back matches is a known rare variant of the -71 with apparently the wrong bezel. .
Correct, my watch has DON. I'll take pics of the caseback and post them. For expert details, an interesting collector who has a no nasa is matter in Italy or Switzerland . He has an incredible Speedmaster collection. Google his tumblr site "Master of speed"
