Travelled all over the world constantly the past 28 years and what frustrates me most is the absolute lack of consistency at security gates - even in the same country, all airports are different - some want shoes off, some dont, some want ipads out ( others only want pc’s), same with liquids etc etc.

No one knows what to do now and thats what slows the lines down.

I havent taken a watch off now for the past 6 years, and never get asked to do so either. Ditto bracelets
Exactly my experience, no consistency. Made a casual remark about it a couple of times but it is just the way it is, no real answer.
I do take of my watch but it goes in the carry-on side pocket, same with the wallet, not loose in the tray.

My heart rate always goes up a good 10 points going through the checkpoint, all on account of whichever watch I have on me. I might try the carry-on trick myself next time.

I've found UK Airports used to be a mixed bag going through security for me.

LCY airport security drives me nuts. First they have the smallest liquid transparent bags I've ever seen and they often have 0 flexibility on this. As for watches, I've also been repeatedly told to put it in the tray. I've told them countless times how filthy their trays are and actually last time put the watch back into the carry-on before having it scanned. (1) I don't trust anyone there, be it security or other passengers and (2) they couldn't care less if someone steals something as they rightly display on billboards right before passing security

For the airports in the US - TSA pre-check is a way to go. I have never been asked to remove the watch. For tourist attractions - it is better to get a beater watch on.
@Larry S - imagine they would've get upset and denied entry for you.

I agree. With Nexus/ tea pre check have never had this issue.

At one point I had even taken my watch off and all my rings and was told that i was better off wearing my rings so They didn’t get lost. Then I asked if I could wear my watch too and they said yes.
