If I had to wager a guess, I would say it’s the aftermarket bezel that’s available on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/254875131138Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Wow- I totally missed that. So the dial looks like standard aging, lacquer is bubbling, lume is yellowed and has a few moldy patches (commensurate with a dial that’s seen some moisture), but on further examination, it looks almost strangely patina’d- I always looks at lume plots as a determiner of condition and originality (like blood splatter- it tells a story), but this is very unusual spotting for lume- almost like the damage was applied or spot burned
There are some other oddities. It also has a no T dial and I don't think I've ever seen these without the T. The date on the caseback is 9-63 and I thought these were introduced in 64, though it may have been produced in '63 for sale in '64? I suppose a very early example COULD have radium...? Except for the misspelling (and repro bezel) it looks quite authentic.
Funny enough, the Dephtomatic spelling was an error seen on other watches! I've seen at least two other examples with this but different watches. I think it was a factory mistake. Besides the replacement bezel, I'd say this one is good.
That does make sense. Everything else is just so right... I assume they were all from the same batch/time period (early, if the case back on the Ebay one is the original).
Ah yes the old 'Deaf Tomato' edition. Careful, in a few year these might be 10x the price if featured on a certain website...
