That it's a private listing so the bidders (i.e.: shill) identities are concealed.

That was my assumption. If you're going to shill, wouldn't it make more sense to be conservative and add a few hundred to the closing price? I can't imagine that any real bidder got the top bid here.

Perhaps a frustrated guy leaving Christie's recent Daytona blowout empty-handed?

Not the first bizarrely overpriced watch from friendly-aaabayer...

Well, it was a 105.012-66, and it had an unoriginal bracelet. I've got two that I'd part with for only $20,000 each. LOL I imagine it will be back for sale in a little bit.
While we're at it, how about this one.

It has the wrong dial, the wrong bezel (not even a dot over 90), replaced hands and the wrong s/n for a 2998-2 (correct for a 2998-5).
    and another

It also has the wrong dial (although it is a radium dial), wrong bezel, wrong sweep second and subdial hands. The s/n however is appropriate for a 2998-2.

    Not so friendly after all.

Who knows it's a real sale. The buyer thought he was bidding on a Daytona.

If you are talking about the bezel on the second one not having the "BASE1000" bezel, I did a lot of research before purchasing mine and a lot of sources stated that the 2998-2 could have either "BASE1000" or DON bezel.

    Cheers

Same seller has a 2998-2 coming up. It'll probably break $100K, maybe half a mil?:coffee:
