Just received my "Extract from the Archives" for my Speedy and got a nice surprise...Can my watch be called a "military" Speedy pre moon??
The NAFFI was, and probably still is, the British armed forces shop on site, army base, airfield or naval base. So certainly bought by a member of Her Majesty's armed forces. Not issued by HM government but cooler than the average Speedy by far, good result. Never head of the signature on the extract usually one of the museum curators.
Adds a nice layer of history to an already very nice watch. I also order extracts for Omegas above a certain value - higher now that they coast us$150.
Terrific! Can't wait to get my extract; sent in for it a few weeks ago. Our Ed White's aren't too far off in serial numbers, btw. Mine goes 24.002.xxx - care to share your next digit?
Finally got my extract this week (believe it or not, it got lost in the Omega system), and our Ed White's were even closer cousins than I thought - mine was a NAAFI too... I was really pleased by this! Another fun element of vintage collecting. I do wish the extract listed the bezel, as mine is a pulsometer. I know it is vintage, and while I doubt it was original to this watch, it would have been nice to know for sure. Oh well!
Yes... ours were produced less than two months apart, and both wound up in similar places, at least to start. (Also interesting that mine is less than 1,000 serial numbers away from Neil Armstrong, although he obviously had a 105.012-65... and you can't be far off, either...)
I am the original poster of this thread - See my certificate at the top of this page! Best Wishes for 2016! Shaun
Thanks ;-) Funnily enough, I have a 105.012 that was issued one month after yours to the US Army. Serial 25,442,XXX
