..over at Fratello Watches by Michael Stockton. This is watch collecting at its best - gentlemanly, collegial behavior has survived in the era of stupid prices. http://www.fratellowatches.com/found-universal-geneve-compax-nina-rindt/
I'm very happy to see that both the behavior still exists, and that staying diligent can still yield results in this crazy market. Good job Fred!

This is such a great example, to boot. Unbelievable find for him. Unfortunately, this just feeds my delusion that I'll also find one for $3K!
Thanks for posting @LouS ...was fun to write about indeed! Incidentally, the person who turned the watch down contacted me after the article posted. He said he had concerns about the pusher and crown, felt the dial and hands were too clean, and his "gut" was not to buy it. Fred will end up giving it a full and proper inspection upon its arrival, but I think it's safe to say that it was well-bought. Cheers! Mike
Thanks for posting LouS and thanks for writing it Michael. Great story. Just fueled my desire to hunt out a watch bargain!
This must be Screaming Deal day, this just went through the Bay a few minutes ago: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tag-Heuer-C...70-/262284958436?_trksid=p2141725.m3662.l6403Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network A Heuer 3147 Dato, sold for $900 as "an old TAG Carrera I bought a while back"
It is screaming deal week...while nowhere near the silliness of either of these deals, I (well, coincidentally Fred helped me) bagged a Wittnauer 242 at what I think was pretty well below what it could have sold for... I'd been looking for a long time. Oddness...but I'll take it!
OMG! This just proves that hard work doesn't pay off. . . While I'm grinding away so I can pay for this addiction, I should have been surfing eBay for these deals!
I spend an inordinate amount of time doing that.... I missed this one by maybe around 10min? I had the chance to pull the trigger on a gorgeous 220-bezel last week, but hesitated since the price was on the high side for one without a stretch-link bracelet. 5min later I went to buy it and indeed, someone was smarter/quicker than I!
I find it odd that the seller knew about the word "patina" but didn't even have the common sense to include "Carrera" in the listing. Ridiculous deal. Also - to the guy that turned down the Nina...all I would say is sometimes you have to be less risk averse with this stuff. For $3K, you take that risk 10x out of 10.
Well considering the Nina would have sold for $4-5k three years ago, I'd say he was just a flash behind the times.
