Just picked up a very nice example! Plating is nice. Dial is I assume/hope just dirty. Movement is very clean! Movement: 355. Serial: 17 mio.

Be very careful with that dial. It has lovely hour batons, by the by. Is this gold plate/gold cap/solid gold?

Plated with a steel caseback. My watchmaker is an Omega expert and if the thinks it works he can try it. If not I'll let it!

Gold capped - 200+ micron layer instead of the 20 - 40 microns of gold plate.

That may explain the condition of the plating. Serial is 13.8m by the way in stead of the 17m I stated earlier.

One thing I like about gold cap is that people can't polish the life out of them.

Although I have seen instances where the cap has fallen off.

Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that the dial can be cleaned. Looks to me like the waterproof seals failed and moisture may have condensed under the crystal and stayed there a good long time.

If that is case, make sure your watchmaker does a total disassembly of the movement as part of the service. There could be some rust inside that will need to be taken care of.

Unless he is a master at removing the lacquer without taking off the printing (and very few are), might be best to leave it alone.

My watchmaker decided not to do it. I listened :)
