Some long years ago, I came across a thread on another forum about a particular Speedmaster cal 321. Duly fell in love with it as it had never been touched other than servicing, but the seller was asking too much. I didn't buy it it and I should have. Anyway t it became in a general sense something of a benchmark and stayed in the back of my mind in a vague way. Long story short, the seller sold it to an Australian buyer some years ago. I have been on the hunt for a well conditioned 321 at a reasonable price for a long time. Recently I came into contact with this watch and it ticked all the boxes. It did look familiar, but that was about it. But something was telling me I knew the watch. I trawled through old threads and there it was that same watch I had previously admired - only realised it was definitely the same one when I checked the serial number. I pretty much know its whole history short of a time in the US but other than a light clean in recent years I don't believe there has been anything added or taken away. The pictures don't show clearly but the facets on all four lugs are still intact. Anyway here she is, the latest acquisition:
Fantastic example with beautifully defined facets. The -66 CB with its subtle differences from the Huguenin Frères cases makes it the sexiest looking c.321 Speedy around (yeah, I'm talking to you straight-lug fans! ). I don't regret selling mine for what it helped me acquire, but the -66 CB would be the first/last/only Speedy example I want back for keeps. Sadly (for this non-owner), I fear the rising value on this variation will outpace my "slow-to-grow" watch-fund savings. So congrats to you on what I gather will be a "keeper!"
I love it when the merry-go-round comes around again. 30 years ago (!) I saw a gorgeous mammoth-scaled Bob Jones folder at Carmel Cutlery. They told me it was already sold, they just hadn't taken it out of the case. Bummer! A month ago I visited the store again and there it was. Unbelievable. It looks like the guy who bought it put it in a safe, then brought it back to consign it. And the wheel keeps turning............
Came with an original bracelet and with this side stitched vintage - the bracelet is too small for me, but truth be told I love the vintage strap. From what I have been able to ascertain it is from Bulang & Sons https://bulangandsons.com/product-category/watch-straps/buckle-straps/ I'm going to end up with a few more for my Speedies as I think they really suit the watch.
