Newbie trying to find his first vintage omega

Hey folks, first of all i´m really happy that i found this forum.

I´ve been looking for my first vintage omega (and first vintage watch in general) for quite some time now.
I´ve already nailed it down to two models.
Either a 1960s-early 70s Seamaster De Ville with a steel case and a silver sunburst dial (preferably with a crosshair but not a must have) or a dogleg Constellation also in steel with a silver dial.
I´ve mainly been looking on Chrono24 and Ebay so far. What i noticed: on Chrono24 the prices seem higher in general but therefore a lot of the watches are newly serviced and quite often come with warranty. Do you guys think it makes sense to only buy from professional dealers and pay the extra amount or would you also consider buying from private sellers on ebay to save sometimes a huge amout of money. My maximum budget would be around 1600€ (I´m from Germany btw) does that sound reasonable? How much does a service cost for these old omegas approximately? Are there other reccommended places to look for these watches?
Sorry for so many questions at a time but there is quite a lot yet to learn for me.

Here are two examples of price wise different watches. Maybe you can let me know what you think of them.

Is this one from Chrono24 overpriced?

I noticed that the bezel seemes broken but this is the exact dial i was looking for mainly.

Thanks in advance, Jan

I would first look at the private sales section here instead of eBay or C24. You will often get a better quality watch from a serious collector at a fair price. The SMDV you are considering is a common entry-level collectible watch, and there's no reason to overpay for a good example.

Decent dog-leg Constellations, certain dials in particular, are more sought after and much more expensive. However, your budget would allow you to buy a decent example in stainless with some patience.

There is also an entire thread where the site's owner posts vetted eBay sales, so you can keep an eye on that.

Also, review the Learn How to Fish thread thoroughly, so you have an understanding of the condition issues you are trying to identify.

Thanks for the answer! I can´t find a single SMDV that is still for sale at the private sales section here. Is this because they normally sell super fast or am i searching wrong?
Good to Know. I will study these threads.

Good watches at fair prices almost always sell quickly (especially the entry-level watches) they don't sit around waiting for you to buy them. When you are looking at listings on eBay and C24, 99% of what you see are overpriced and/or crappy watches that are just sitting on the market. You need to educate yourself in advance, so that when something good becomes available you're ready to act quickly.

Agreed, BOTH of those would be severe hard-passes for me. For about that budget, this Connie (a much nicer watch) is pretty close: https://omegaforums.net/threads/ome...one-dial-service-history.183858/#post-2542596

If you like the Deville, check out this one: https://omegaforums.net/threads/14k...nous-dial-on-omega-strap.187094/#post-2542288

THIS needs a very slight amount of TLC (A crystal swap), but is an absolute deal: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-geneve-135-041-blue-sunburst.186718/

And finally, this one is a little pricier, but way nicer than the ones you're looking at, and frankly, a MUCH better start into the vintage world:

The biggest thing you need to do: FIGURE out what YOU want out of a watch. Why are you attached to the Deville? IN many cases, people see them as more affordable and attach to those, but end up missing out on some great ones of other models (see above!).

@ErichKeane thanks for confirming that these watches are not the best deal and for showing some alternatives. They actually seem way more trustworthy. Though i am very sure about the stainless steel case and silver/white dial and hands. I´m just not a big fan of gold in general (unpopular opinion, i know). I was mainly looking for the SMDV because i just like the simple elegance and i think it is very timeles. The price was not really the reason.

Hey Folks, i read myself through the "learn how to fish"-thread.
Today i got a very spontanous offer.
This watch costs 350 €
Appart from the scratches at the case and the lugs i can´t see any visual problems with this watch.
the only problem is that it had not been serviced since 2006.
What do you guys think about this offer and the pictures?
Are these hands original? Since i haven´t seen these triangle hands on a Seamaster de ville before.

I agree about the hands, and the sunburst finish also doesn't look right to me.

Thanks for confirming that the hands seem wrong. What exactly is suspicious about the sunburst finish?

In that photo, the finish looks like the sloppy kind of sunburst finish that is indicative of a repainted dial.

Dial pictures are so low-res it’s impossible to tell for sure if it is all right or not. Only way to know for sure is an in person inspection.

From what little I can see it looks like there may be some water damage to the lacquer, but otherwise looks original to me.

This is the problem with buying a watch over the internet.

I might have the chance to take a look at it since the guy selling it lives only half an hour away from my place. though i am not sure if i´m able to tell wether it is original in person since i have no comparison. The price is quite tempting to at least take a look though

A good way to know if th hands are not for that ref is in this case they have a black onyx strip on them but none of the indexes do. Generally they will have them as well.

Today this watch was uploaded to C24:
https://www.chrono24.de/omega/seamaster-de-ville--id43892201.htm

Maybe you guys can tell me your opinion about this example.

Compared to a lot of similar watches on C24 it is a bit cheaper. Though still not very cheap. The seller has been around for quite some time now and has a lot of positive reviews. He´s specialised in vintage omega.
What i noticed: The dial, the hands, crown etc. all look authentic to me.
It says "SWISS MADE" on the dial but without the "T´s". Not sure if that would necessarely be a sign of a fake dial?!
Is the polishing a no go?
