Hi all,

Im new to OF, just bought a Logines admiral 1200 circa 1961/1962. Would like to seek for some advise on whether should i clean the watch, or as i heard, if its touched it will wear down the value.

This piece i bought from an antique reseller, where he collect and resell "Dead-guy stuff" for living. This is what I got.

The watch come with original expandable bracelet, case is mildly scratches, back case has way lesser scratch. Crystal is in bad shape, some pretty obvious deep scratch. As for the dial, there some dotted mold like patina on it. With all the issues, it doesn't really look good on wrist in general.

Should i fix the crystal's scratches or give it some light cleaning on the dial? Need expert's advise.

Thank you.

*I didn't have tools to open the back case, this watch runs perfectly fine.

Congrats on your find. Steel Longines from the ‘60s are usually quality, well made pieces that are wearable and collectible. This will have a cal.340 movement. The crystal is in poor shape and should be replaced. Cleaning the dial is almost always a bad idea. The outcome will most likely be worse than when you started. If the watch keeps good time - have your watchmaker replace the crystal and wear it in good health.

The dial will look completely different once the crystal is repolished or replaced. The light spotting isn’t bothersome to my eyes— it’s a matter of personal taste but to me it’s a bit like freckles or the tiny black specs on a vanilla ice cream.
