    Hi All,

Long time stalker first time poster. Firstly, full disclosure I am a total watch “noob” but I’ve still managed to develop an unexpected obsession with the Speedmaster, specifically my birth year of 1977. If I could bother the kind gents and ladies of this forum for some advice?

Is this particular watch considered a “good example” of the speedmaster?
Is a budget of $5k aud realistic to obtain a relatively good condition piece with an original bracelet?

I’ve reviewed some previous and current sales on this forum (shattered I missed a recent sale) and prices do seem to vary considerably.

If my budget is not realistic can anyone advise of a similarly styled omega from 1977 (perhaps even with a date option) that would suit.

Thanks in advance for any assistance and thanks for the knowledge you have already given me with your previous contributions this forum.

Additional question. Is there any way to set up search notifications for particular items for sale?

Last question first. On Ebay you can set up search notifications. You will get Emails from Ebay. Here, I don't think so. Budget. $5000 AUD ($3500 US) might be enough to get you a fair condition Speedmaster 145.022-76 that will most likely need service. Here is a make an offer listing.

Thanks kingsrider! Might just be the resolution but seems the photos of the case are showing a “78” serial number Ann’s from my limited knowledge the bracelet does not look correct?
Regardless I’ll set up some eBay notifications and keep an eye on the forum.

For a vintage watch, prices vary considerably due to the condition but for AUD5000, you can get a decent 76/78.

I would say it is a very good example of a Speedmaster Pro because you are essentially paying the price of a modern Speedmaster Pro but you are getting a vintage model.

You can check the production date of a Speedmaster Professional at https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com/productiondateprediction/
If I read the number correctly it could be a 77 production model.

I think that if this is a 1977 production model, then it is very late in the year.

https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com/productionprediction puts this at January, 1978 (screenshot below):

I purchased a 1977 birth year 145.022-76 from a reputable member of this forum, and the serial on that was: 39921XXX and the above site approximated that it was produced in June 1977, whereas mine was verified by Omega extract to be April 1977 (image below):

My point simply being, that the charts and approximations are super helpful, but the only way to truly verify is by extract.

I was "actuarily" confident in my pre-extract assessment because it identified the middle of 1977, so I was bullish in that it would land within the calendar year and thus be a "birth year".

I hope that this helps and good luck on the hunt!

Thanks all for your efforts. Now that I’ve seen the higher res photos on eBay I can clearly see the 76.
Nice watch (and birth year) by the way jB

    Hi Ando

The braclet is a later version of the originally fitted 1171 bracelet. A 1171 from that period should have a trapezoid logo. The dial indicates that this is a late 77 speedy or that the dial has been replaced a a later point in time. This dial has been used up to 1990. You should ask for the serial and movement shots.
This „Q Horizontal Tail“ caseback has been used between 1983 and 1995.
If I would have to guess, I would say this is not a 77 speedy. It is rather from the 80ties. The serial number will tell.

Cheers an good luck with your hunt. My 77 speedy says hi. :)

Reviving my old thread to get some opinions (if you would be so kind) on this watch for sale right here https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-speedmaster-professional-145-022-76.94906/
No disrespect to the seller of course but there seems to be a total loss of lume and based on previous sales, very much on the pricey end of the scale
Happy to wait for a better example but interested to hear thoughts of those more experienced than me.

Post pics, please. If watch is withdrawn pics may be erased and your post and replies become meaningless.

They are not my pictures and if it is sold or withdrawn then any replies post that are meaningless anyway. Any thoughts on the watch?
