Hi everyone, I'm the latest newb and I'm looking forward to learning more about our favorite subject. I'm looking for some information for a small project I'm considering and I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum section, so here goes. I am considering retro-fitting some Planet Ocean (cal 8500) hands onto another watch. In order to do this I need to have some information on the sizes, etc. More specifically, here's what I'm looking for: 1. I need the hole sizes for hour/min/sweep sec hands 2. The length of these three items. The specific Omega watch these hands fit is a P.O. cal 8500, model 232.30.46.21.01.002 (steel/orange bezel) 45.5mm I have searched and searched online, to no avail. Any help here is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edit: corrected model number
Thanks for taking a stab. Yeah, I have looked pretty extensively - including the ofrei site - and tried as many search terms as I can think of. Ofrei sells the hands but there are no sizes listed. I thought about contacting Omega, but I seriously think I'd be wasting my time. The most critical thing I need is the 3 hole diameters, as I think the case/movement size I'll be fitting these to is 45/46mm, so length shouldn't be a problem.
Omega does not supply this information...if I need hands I look up the model they go on and order the part numbers indicated for that model. Hole sizes are never listed - Omega has no reason to list them. Cheers, Al
Maybe someone with an 8500 kickin' around could measure for you? Or if you have one, you and your local watchmaker could - post back if you do! Probably a tough bit of info to find..
Why not send an email to Ofrei asking them if they could provide the measurements? They provide the measurements for most of the other hands they sell.
ofrei is pretty clear that they are unlikely to respond to email queries like this on their site. They suggest calling, but even then, I'm not sure if they would go through the trouble for little to no return for themselves. You never know. they might, but I think getting your hands on a set of hands and taking a caliper to them would be the best way.
You are probably right and they only cost $36 for the hour and minute and $18.60 for the sweep. Order online and you will probably have them by the end of the week.
Well, I tried the e-mail approach and after several "back-and-forths", "Bob" said they are "90/150/25". I further inquired re: the "two-tone" (or "bi-colored") colors used, and he said he didn't know what I was talking about. I explained in greater detail and looked up a random picture on the interweb to illustrate and sent it. I have not heard back as to this aspect yet. http://blog.luxurybazaar.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/23292462103001-50.jpg
