I have always been a keen user of back up maps and compasses at all times as you never know when the electric components are going to fail.
( when you want to fish the East bank of a remote river when you have been twenty directions to get there it's good to be able to work out where East is )
During a search for something else I came across a watch that had a solar compass and it immediately took my interest.
