    Phew! Thanks for the answer.

Actually I am looking at around USD 500 entry level watch to start with ... What do you think about the Cal 1030? Someone is offering me USD 310 for it with box and authentic paper.

I have called redial before and been wrong, so this may be the case again. But I think this is a redial, the Swiss made at the bottom of the dial looks quite far apart. Also, there is tritium on the dial and hands but no T before or after the Swiss made.
Frequently I ignore my own advice so feel free to take this with a pinch of salt, but I suggest you slow down and keep searching for that vintage watch in great condition. Condition is the key, and you are better off waiting for a really good example and learning while you search than jumping on something that is average.

Oh wow, I didn't even noticed the T before and after the SWISS MADE until you say so!! Indeed, I know nothing and have everything to learn from you all.

Hmm it is really quite hard to find a good vintage watch with minimal patina ... I'm almost terrified of bidding on EBay as I cannot identify if it is fake or not!?

Let me try to identify ... is this a fake because the minute hands don't line up?

It's not a fake, it's been refinished. The text is incorrect and sloppy and as you pointed out the minute hashes and hour indexes are all over the place.

I would highly recommend you look through the sales forum here on OF. I can think of no less than 3 watches for sale right now in this price range that are phenomenal values in their own right. This would be the safest path for a newcomer to the hobby if you want to avoid making a mistake right out of the gate. Personally, I wish I had found this forum before I bought my first few watches!

Are you looking for Quartz or mechanical? Or are you just interested in the lighter-colored dial dress style type of Omega?

Fake is generally not the issue with vintage Omegas. Redials and watches that have been pieced together over time are more common than fake or counterfeit watches.
Patience is the key. You found this forum so your journey is headed in the right direction. Slow down and enjoy the hunt and you will be less likely to end up with a watch that disappoints you.

Why do the things you say sound so predatory?

Nothing quite like the 'scent of fresh blood'.......in terms of uncovering a desirable watch, not seen before, at a fair price, that will afford one the immense satisfaction of historic personal ownership.... ( however transitory )

Because there is nothing more satisfying than finding the watch you have been hunting for and getting a great deal on it.

Or even better when your not hunting and coincidently come across a treasure that's been sitting around waiting for TLC after many years of service.

@kingsrider I've always thought that the case was a goner if I saw signs of deterioration around the back. Good to know that it can be brought back to life. Did you guys use ultrasonic cleaning? Beautiful watch!
